I worked at Dunnes Stores full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Staff friendly, good perks, no day the same, flexible hours

    Cons

Not much room for progression, pay increases not on the horizon, alot of pressure from management

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to employees opinions and ideas more

Great people poor head office/ company.

    I worked at Dunnes Stores

    Pros

GREAT PEOPLE with flexible hours. If possible I would give five stars because you can meet some of the smartest and most interesting people while working in RETAIL. FIVE stars for RETAIL. Minus 1 for the company.

    Cons

Orders come from head office. Management similar to robots following orders with little room to make independent decisions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being a heartless corporation focused on profits or at least try to mask it somewhat. Dunne's is the Irish Walmart.

I worked at Dunnes Stores full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good breaks, 4 weeks paid holidays per annum, good pay (hourly rate) relative to a supermarket job. Expected to work hard but treated fairly in return. Lots of hours for a college student. Time and a half pay on Sundays

    Cons

Expected to take work pretty seriously for a supermarket job, worked a lot of hours during the college year and expected to work 5 days a week including early mornings before college. Difficult to change shifts and play sport competitively because of late shifts. You must give two weeks notice to ask for a day off.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be considerate of staff that are doing a good job, compliment staff when they do a good job.

I have been working at Dunnes Stores part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Flexible hours while in college are great, no problem in getting time off for exams etc. Pay is ok, better than minimum wage.

    Cons

Untrained management, lack of basic communication skills, very poor morale. Some of the managers seem to forget that they are at work, selective management, bullying is pretty common in our store. It would make sense to pay them redundancies and hire some motivated, enthusiastic people,it would pay off in the long run!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Monitor, train low level managers

I worked at Dunnes Stores part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

My managers were really understanding and light hearted, felt like if I had issues I could raise it with them. If I was unable to do certain days or weeks, they always tried to accomadate as best as they could especially during exam times which I really appreciated. They were really understanding about the fact that I had universtiy.

    Cons

Some of the supervisors were harsh and overly critical of everything I did, including things that didn't matter. Had no appreciation of the work, effort and time I gave up even though I always gave 100% and was a really hard worker. Felt like I was constantly put down, and that I wasn't a valued member of staff, or even that I was part of the team. Staff morale was incredibly low. I felt isolated and just left to get on with my duties most of my time there. There wasn't an effort to integrate, motivate or encourage the staff at all. There was also a clear divide in the staff with a "us against them" attitude towards new staff members.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There is no staff discount, not even 10%.
Should be incentives for employees to perform better.
The rota was only done a week in advance which was very frustrating.

I worked at Dunnes Stores part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some great member's of management and i made some really good friends who i'm still in contact with.

    Cons

Having worked everyday offered me and worked my way up from the warehouse to customer service desk. I handed in my notice and made a complaint about a managers attitude towards junior members of staff and towards myself. I was asked to come to a meeting with HR and they asked me if they could get the manager to change would i want to come back. I said yes. I was never asked to come back

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Realize staff members with potential to progress and have a better attitude towards junior members of staff and listen to any ideas they may have for merchandising and don't swear at your staff and loose you temper
