    Not too bad

Art Teacher (Current Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsAnnual bonus in alternative schools (Bridge) and helping students develop socially

ConsNo support and some times bad leadership from the administration

Advice to Senior ManagementDevelop professionally first before disciplining your teacher staff understanding that most of them are under paid and unappreciated yet over worked.

    Not so great

Teacher/Instructional Coach (Former Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsSummers Off, Kids, Rewarding in terms of kids growth and learning outcomes - priceless!

ConsLong hours, No accountability at any level, experience will vary depending on location, very unorganized, little to no advancement opportunities, unclean working environment, rating and bonus system is lacking

Advice to Senior ManagementRun it like a successful business, follow a structure of accountability. Some major HR issues (discrimination, labor laws, etc.) - law suit waiting to happen.

Standard Public Education... Not Student Focused

Math Teacher (Current Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsGiving back to community, Molding students lives, Solid benefits, Summers off, Somewhat job security based solely on tenure not on performance,

ConsStudent Achievement is a Moving Target, Yearly changes, Leadership is handcuffed. Public Education across the country in its current state is set up for failure. Less than 30% of voters have kids in the public educational system

Advice to Senior ManagementPut Students First

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend

    Everything is done last minute

    Teacher (Current Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsWorking with some great kids of all levels and backgrounds preparing them for a future. Decent benefits paid by the school board.

ConsNot enough thought process put into procedures before implementation by district and by the time it gets into the schools it is too late. Not enough professional development to clarify standards and procedures. Lack of clear communication with regards to procedures.

Advice to Senior ManagementBecome proactive instead of reactive. Provide professional development within the schools by district to define procedures and timelines with regards to the constant change in education. Make sure you know your own timelines so you are not requesting the impossible.

There were always new challenges to be faced.

    Teacher (Former Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsYou can interact with students, coach sports teams, and create curriculum.

ConsThe hours are long, the grading can be tedious, and not all people work up to par.

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide more incentives to those who put forth greater effort and produce better results.

They retaliate against teachers who have concerns and are outspoken.

    Teacher (Former Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsTeaching children is very rewarding. Health insurance. Sick days and personal days. Teachers are good people and make good friends.

ConsLack of administrative support. They are very punitive towards teachers and very easy on students. High standards appear to be only for teachers. This causes a gross disconnect and a stressful atmosphere for the teachers. It is ok for there to be high standards for teachers but teachers need to be able to expect something from the students also.

Advice to Senior ManagementImprove teacher morale. Students are not well served by unhappy, miserable teachers.

    Trained to be a lemming.

    Teacher (Current Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsGood benefits. Good health care package for now.

ConsToo much one-size-fits-all. Too much testing of students instead of quality instructional time. Classes too large. Not just DCPS, but most govt schools, teachers are trained to be lemmings - old video game - where these littlee creatures just followed each other right over a cliff.

Advice to Senior ManagementLet teachers use their creativity again. Trust, but verify, that your teachers are knowledgeable and creative and give them an oportunity to show their stuff.

Unbelievable Bureaucracy. Chaotic, disorganized, poor leadership at both the district and local level.

Public School Teacher (Former Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsA regular paycheck is assured when you are a public school teacher but you must be willing to make tremendous personal sacrifices to be a public school teacher.

ConsStudents, parents, and administrators constantly abuse teachers and have very little respect for the job they do and the effort that must be made to get everything expected completed on time.

Advice to Senior ManagementAll managers should be required to spend at least a semester in the classroom every few years to be reminded what its like.

The left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    ProsGood benefits
If you get into a good school the kids are great.

ConsIf you don't teach an FCAT subject you're not given the respect you deserve.

Students can make up false allegations and get away with it.

Constantly changing, and not always in a good way.

    Teacher (Current Employee) Jacksonville, FL

ProsSummers off. Free professional development. Some children are a pleasure to work with.

ConsEverything else. Working conditions. Resources. Student behavior and lack of respect from them and colleagues.

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend
