    I worked at Dynegy

    Pros

Dynegy allowed staff employees to work a 9/80 schedule which gave every other Friday off. Pay and benefits are in line with industry average. Company provides short term incentives.

    Cons

Company sold over half of it's assets and advancement opportunities disappeared. Senior leaders promote via good ole boy system rather than by merit and potential.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Senior leadership should take a better look at succession planning. There is a reason the company had to sell half of its asset base.

I have been working at Dynegy

    Pros

Dynegy acquired our power plant in 2007. Overall it has been a reasonable company to work for. The benefits and salary package that was negotiated by our union was good and for the most part I believe that the majority of people were happy with it. The company allowed a significant amount of time off for one of the employees for the birth of her daughter and several weeks of post natal care, this was in part due to California law, but the company gets credit where it is due for allowing her to use vacation and sick time to make up for shortcomings in pay.

    Cons

The company as a whole is failing miserably but has amazingly stayed afloat this long. The company jumped on the debt bandwagon like every other nitwit in this country from the home flippers to the too big to fail banks. The lack of fundamental economic understanding and foresight is excusable for the GED crowd, but if your in an executive position you'd better be damn sure you're too big to fail before you take on a debt to asset ratio that big. Dynegy was not too big to fail. Recently the company has given the union and represented employees a big middle finger during contract negotiations. This is due to the fact that the company is going to be acquired and split up by Blackstone Group and NRG and therefor had no incentive to negotiate until after the deal passed. This didn't stop them from wasting many hours of the union reps time. Any shareholder with a significant amount of money in Dynegy has basically lost their ass.

    Pros

Great Salary, Global Company, Great People to work with, Very good exposure to the Oil and Gas Downstream

    Cons

Managment is lacking knowledge regarding global operations in their satellite locations which causes them to miss some opportunities

Get out of the office and travel outside of Houston so that you can get a better picture of what the global downstream operations really look like

I have been working at Dynegy

    Pros

There are nice people in the office.
    Easy access to interstate.
Pay is in line with other companies in the area.

    Cons

People are trying to save their jobs by throwing others under the bus.
    No opportunity for advancement.
Benefits are cut to the point of almost being uninsured.
    No communication.
Promotions based upon tenure, not capability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There needs to be better communication and acknowledment of employees. Pay attention to the employees and let themknow they are valued instead of reminding them after multiple layoffs they are lucky to have a job.

I have been working at Dynegy

    Pros

Flexible Work Schedule is terrific for maintaining a work/life balance. Compensation and benefits tend to be on the generous side; however, employees are absorbing more of the benefit costs in 2011.

    Cons

Preferential treatment (favoritism) observed for select individuals, with promotions awarded to this group only. Employee’s annual performance rating is not based on contribution or achievement, but is determined by forced distribution or relative ranking, which directly contributes to the annual adjustment and incentive amount received.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Dynegy has the potential to be a wonderful place to work, if 1) communications were more forthcoming and less after the fact, and 2) favoritism/preferential treatment is acknowledged and eliminated, thus ensuring everyone has the same opportunity to succeed within the organization.
