    Pros

Dynetics seems to be built on hard working people and it appears in their culture. Dynetics is dedicated to doing things the right way and without cutting corners. This is a good thing cause they always follow correct procedure but it can make it difficult sometimes. Everyone is very friendly and their is a open door policy. They also have pretty flexible schedules which works nicely.

    Cons

I love what I do and there is a lot to do in Huntsville, but its seems like its primarily designed for a older crowd. By older I mean with family. They are willing to send you back to school but they limit you ability in which they will only cover 2.8 classes a year which means you have to cover the slight remainder of $400 and that also means that it would take 4 years to complete.

    Advice to Management

I feel like sometimes what is expected is unclear but that is because i'm relatively new and don't really know what i'm doing as well as some lack in communication. Its seems like everything is fast pace which means that you have to work to keep up.

    Pros

The work is challenging and technical, but the company provides the support and guidance to enable success. My co-workers are phenomenal and my group had been very supportive of continued education and diversifying my skill set with formal education and training. I couldn't be happier here.

    Cons

The company feels "old" sometimes, but they're working hard to appeal to a younger generation of professionals.

    Advice to Management

Keep doing what you're doing and never forget to continue investing in your greatest resource: your employees!

  5. OK Company to work for but no room for advancement or lateral moves

    Pros

Annual reviews are given on time but have no real meaning.
Non meaningful training not particularly specific to job is given on a regular basis.

    Cons

People are hired when there are perfectly qualified people already working at Dynetics who are not considered for the positions.

    Advice to Management

Promote within. Make sure that jobs are posted for all existing employees to see and even promote these opportunities to other employees. Don't "pigeon hole" employees into a particular job niche and expect them to stay in that same position and be happy. Be more intuned to employee needs.

    Pros

    Great company overall
    Benefits are great
    Pay is very competitive

    Cons

Some divisions are very poorly ran.
Salaried employees' PTO docked for all absences
    Managers play favorites
Work load allocated by who is friends or relatives
Reviews are not fair. Ask for training, don't get training, then docked on review for not knowing
Hard to move to positions in other departments or divisions

    Advice to Management

Look at departments with high turnover. If one manager seems to be firing people or has people quitting on a regular basis, there is a problem with that manager. Just because they've worked there for 20 years does not mean they know how to manage people.

    Pros

This is an excellent company to work especially for engineers. They offer very competitive salaries and one of the best benefits (locally). The company is highly ethical - in their dealings with employees, contracts and customers. They offer a lot of lateral movement, internal training (Dynetics University) and external (must fit your development plan/ current responsibilities). Their upper management is exceptional.

    Cons

    Hard to think ...
Needs to diversify into other things (non-DoD)

    Pros

The culture of the people of the company was very supportive and nonjudgmental. Regardless of what position you had in the company you were treated as equal.

    Cons

Upward movement was difficult in certain departments. It seemed that you would have to know someone on the inside in order to get hired unless you were and engineer.

    Advice to Management

Develop a more clear career ladder. Continue to stay with the government work, but branch more into the commercial sector. Allow the commercial sections of the company to be able to move more quickly and be more creative than the government side.

    Pros

Dynetics is full of agreeable, capable, smart people. This goes a long way in making any place to work for great.

    Cons

Compensation is geared towards ESOP rather than straight salary in order to engender loyalty, I would rather have cash and not have a vesting schedule to keep me in line. Carrots and sticks shouldn't be needed, and aren't at Dynetics, which makes it all the more puzzling.

    The coffee is terrible.

    Pros

Great people. Like going to church. Their interview process is fantastic. HR group is super!

    Cons

No fries with the Chick-Fil-A lunches on Mondays is a bit disappointing. But besides that, it is great place. The company has their values & beliefs in the right place.

    Advice to Management

The two top legacy managers are set to retire within the next year. The new folks need to continue down the path that Marc and Tom have created.
