    I worked at Dyno Nobel

    Pros

Dyno is a good place to work. There are many dedicated employees there who have been there quite a few years. Generally the culture is good though not much for building a team.

    Cons

The compensation was middle of the road. The changes and influence from the Australian parent company was not a good thing. They would make some pretty rash decisions that would effect employees. Avoid the Aussies!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To IPL, let the folks in the US manage their business and stay out of it.

I have been working at Dyno Nobel full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

It's a supportive and friendly team and there is a bonus system that pays out. The company actually sets goals.

    Cons

Not enough training. There's a lot of information and systems to understand and you have to find your way a bit on your own

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a bit more time to understand how the work gets done at the operational level in your teams

    Pros

People, Safety is number 1 priority, team driven, Change is not always easy, but the vision is gradually coming to fruition.

    Cons

Change at slow pace, career opportunities are few to come by, long tenure of personnel, low accountability

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out more to the grounds without announced to see what is truly going on, learn and help put things in place. Improve on processes and systems keeping in line with the new technologies and innovations. Be innovative eventhough the mining market is not there yet.

    Pros

Exciting opportunity for multi-site continuous improvement initiative rollout, good pay

    Cons

My direct supervisor / boss (VP level) was very unsupportive when sites / site facilitators pushed back, resisting change, and assistance from corporate resources.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Practice what you preach in terms of coaching and effective leadership practices.

I have been working at Dyno Nobel full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good culture of safety and excellent caliber of people to work with. Sincere desire to grow into a world class service oriented industry. ITILv3 foundation organization.

    Cons

Communication: this can be said of nearly any organization.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I worked at Dyno Nobel full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great place to work....With little management input. Few team building, but lots of projects.

    Cons

Very little training available.Hard to make a real impact. Employees are driven, but hard to excel in one area of expertise. Did many projects, with little imput from managers, till
    you come to reporting findings.
Had a great director, who was always available for questions. Very busy, and had too many reports to be a great manager. But excellent communicator.
Lots of change management, and lean management studies.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Pick and choose studies, and lean management projects. Too many starts, and not enough success. Takes away from everyday work. Less stress on cost savings, and project completion.
And more rewards for job, closer to what employee is hired to do!

I worked at Dyno Nobel full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Benefits! Time off, great culture towards safety. I would have stayed until retirement had I not met my wife to be and moved out of state due to her having an even better job than I had.

    Cons

The people there really didn't appreciate how good they had it, seemed people became spoiled considering this was one of this best paying jobs in the area. Some programs where beat to death and others lacked proper training. I remember my supervisor giving me a task that had to be done on the computer, they had been given training on doing this and yet they didn't know what to do and expected me to even though I hadn't 'officially' gotten training as they had. This kind of thing happened often sadly.

Culture of fear dominates business decisions. The corporate culture is at a toxic level. Succession planning is nonexistent.

I have been working at Dyno Nobel

    Pros

Most people are great to work with.
Work/Life balance is good. Most managers are understanding when it comes to personal issues.

    Cons

For a world wide company who deals with explosives... very unorganized
Very little recognition. There is never money in the budget to do anything.
Pay is not so great. Very little communication from management.
    A lot of office politics.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize your employees when a good job is done. Support your employees. Communicate with your staff.
