I have been working at E Ink full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

E Ink's technology is highly differentiated, which makes working there fun -- especially when it comes to meeting with customers about new applications.

    Cons

Strategic decisions and organizational changes can sometimes take a long time to be implemented.

I have been working at E Ink as an intern

    Pros

The people are all very pleasant. Very friendly people, but on the socially shy side. Compensation seems to be average, and the benefits are good. Perks are a strong office culture with lots of pride and company events.

    Cons

Many engineering leaders tend to be better project managers than personnel managers. The company is only about 300 people, so there is only room to move when there is movement.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look into programs like the Gordon Leadership program to find more well rounded technical managers. Make sure to include the interns fully so they benefit as much as possible.

I have been working at E Ink

    Pros

The work is low pressure and interesting.

    Cons

No stock options and it being a smaller company with the headquarters on the East coast, don't see a huge potential career growth of financial opportunity here.

I have been working at E Ink

    Pros

Some old timers still hold on to the fun startup culture that once prevailed. Flexible work hours.

    Cons

Very biased promotion system. Pay is mediocre. Culture moving towards an old stodgy boring corporate model.

I worked at E Ink as an intern (less than a year)

    Pros

-Good environment with other young engineers
-Always work to keep you busy
    -Friendly co workers
    -Nice perks and company events

    Cons

-Excessive micromanagement (esp. in this department)
-Mundane tasks from day to day
-No clear goal besides get product out on time
    -Minimal career opportunities

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't worry so much about making sure your employees' are performing 100% everyday. Train them properly and trust that they will want to do a good job. The micromanagement is really over the top, and has a negative effect.

I have been working at E Ink full-time

    Pros

Some of the brightest people I have ever met and had the pleasure to work alongside. E INK started at MIT and still retains many MIT (and IVY league) graduates. Very, interesting technology that really captures the true essence of nanotechnology coupled with commercial success. People are quite friendly, and it is easy work on projects that one would be interested in working.

    Cons

Moving away from Cambridge to Billerica will hurt the recruitment and retention of the best minds in Boston (and probably the world). The market size for e-readers has shrunk significantly due to tablets, and more marketing and new ideas needed fast. If you are looking to slow down, E INK might not be for you; it's very fast-paced, and energetic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Normalizing the technical capability to the size of E INK (~200 technical employees), this is probably one of the most technically superior companies in the world. However, the business development group is dismal. Hire many more people that are capable of finding new markets for E INK screens and new uses for capsules/mircocups. Diversify your products!

    I worked at E Ink

    Pros

exposure to cutting edge technology, potential to revolutionize an industry, very intelligent co-workers, opportunity to shift roles, not too much bureaucracy

    Cons

salary sub-par, conservative management, too much cost-cutting, new technology chasing old-fashioned customers, high dependence on asia operations without permanent staff there

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

must invest money to make money, need stronger marketing team, try to address the attrition problem, throw more events to build morale

    Pros

reasonable workload, kind bosses. it may not the one paying the most to me but it gives me a balance of work and life

I have been working at E Ink

    Pros

E Ink is a very cool technology with great potential and there are a large number of great, smart, friendly folks who work there.

    Cons

Little communication from the top down. Odd fracturing between groups. Little company spirit. This is a company that needs some direction.
