Pros
a great place to get experience, it forces you to adapt to changing situations
Cons
management was always reacting to problems (and badly) instead of anticipating them. Too many legacy systems, and too many changes, then unchanges
Advice to Senior Management
Don't ever, ever, let the ETBank people run the company again
Pros
Etrade is a great place to begin a career in Finance. Getting you feet wet is mandatory from day one. They do take great care in training you properly for the position and provide ample time and training for getting all necessary licenses. Once all licenses have been acquired, further training is given to further improve your job performance. Also, self training in other fields and topics within the financial field is encouraged. Being originally a dot com company, the work atmosphere was fairly relaxed but was changing considerably when I left. The casual dress attire at work was still in place and definitely made for a more comfortable work environment.
Cons
The long hours required. Overtime is generally mandatory. The minimum standards and quotas needed to be met at work was strictly monitored and can be extremely overbearing.
Advice to Senior Management
Cultivate the employees more. The work environment and the constant need to meet your "numbers" was stressful and numbing. This pressure seemed to come from the top since most supervisors I knew were also under the same kind of stress.
Pros
E*TRADE is a very fast-paced environment where employees learn to multi-task and utilize a variety of resources to complete the task at hand. Opportunities for professional development are plentiful. Employees have an opportunity to learn many different software applications. The environment also provides very much information to employees about the goings-on in the stock market.
Cons
Management is inconsistent. Constantly changing managers results in starting/stopping of projects and confused employees. The company also has multiple locations throughout the U.S. and resources have been juggled between those sites over the years. I think employees in some of the current locations are probably scared that their location will be closed.
Advice to Senior Management
Choose a path and stick to it.
