    I have been working at E. & J. Gallo full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Good salary. Good benefits. Most employees below management level are great talented people passionate about their craft and work. Great individual contributors trying to do their best, help each other, and make their days fun, creative and professionaly worthwhile.

    Cons

Management sucks - they know the numbers but not the process or the people who get it done. Managers are engaged with their mangers, not the people they manage. "Leadership Team" couldn't lead lemmings off a cliff. Politics, Ladder Climbing, and Personal Vendettas. Mediocrity rises to the top via committee rule. HR is the companies SS. Family owned company more Corporate than any corporation. Clique to win. Doing your job well is second to helping your manager look good and attain requirements for their bonuses. Turnover of 75 employees last 10 years (for a department of 75 employees). The best of the best have left the building. Get as much unofficial info as possible before committing yourself to work here.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Putting up posters declaring that the company is about: INTEGRITY, and then operating without integrity; HONESTY, and not being honest; RESPECT, while not being respectful; ETC. Just creates a CULTURE of skepticism and indifference to your WORDS. Management needs to lead with actual Inegrity, Honesty, and Respect.

    Cons

    I worked at E. & J. Gallo full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Company focuses on long term growth. Months and quarters pass without the typical corporate push to make numbers. Family is very involved in day to day business. A very detail oriented leadership style. Company is focused on being best in class. Pay is well for the area and bonus always pays nice due to growth of company. Company treats employees well with lots of little perks, dinner's, picnic's, etc.

    Cons

Leadership is not aligned. No COO creates a large gap in the organization. Politics and relationship based culture slow down progress. Analysis paralysis and micromanaging can be frustrating and delay progress. Lack of empowerment for employees as detailed decisions are made at a high level. Not much room for growth. Company is slow to promote.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Trust your employees to make decisions.

    Pros

Large company, great exposure, I learned a lot that applied elsewhere, compensation was good for recent college grad, drank wine during work hours couple of times each month, awesome wine discounts, health insurance was good

    Cons

70+ hour work weeks, no life work balance, lots and lots of butt kissing required to get promotion, raises were minimal, and it was very common for people to get laid off and/or let go after putting in 15+ years only to be replaced by cheaper labor

    Pros

A case of wine towards the end of the year, every year. Softball tournament every year within the company. Yearly team outing activity. Breath taking walking path around the admin building.

    Cons

Management care too much about their bonuses and checking off a check box taking on more projects then head count can account for.
