    Pros

Very entrepreneurial and rewarding environment for any knowledgeable and ambitious environmental or engineering professional. The company is quick to recognize top performers, and is growing quickly, so there are always opportunities to seize for advancement into management. There is lots of work to be done, and management does not particularly care when and where it's done, just that it gets done on time and well, so there is an extraordinary amount of freedom and flexibillity. Quality and special level of customer service are really important here, so not the right place for someone that wants to punch in 40 hours and go home at 5.

    Cons

The company is very busy and growing quickly, so the hours needed can be high. They are always hiring people, but can't seem to get ahead of the growth curve. One needs to speak up sometimes to be heard, as there is alot going on.

    Pros

Leadership is supportive of employees looking to take on more responsibility
    Flexible work schedule
    Commission available for most positions
    Company is in GROWTH mode

    Cons

Coffee isn't great but there is a starbucks around the corner
There are 400+ employees, about half of the company works remotely so getting everyone on the same page can be difficult given there are so many remote employees

    Advice to Management

    Hire more people.
    Open more offices
    Encourage phone calls to emails

    Pros

Gaining a variety of experience. Exceptional people to work with. Always busy. No commute related expenses (i.e. gas, mileage, maintenance) and time better spent...not stuck in traffic. Management shows appreciation for good work and offers assistance when needed. EBI has an incredible staff of professionals who understand what it takes to work as a team without throwing others under the bus to climb the corporate ladder. I intend to stay with EBI for the remainder of my career.

    Cons

You are expected to meet proejct credit goals within a typical 40 hour weeek. However, this is rarely possible so you end up working longer hours. Since pay bonuses/adjustments reflect meeting project credits (not hours worked), its difficult to get a decent bonus. Lower spectrum pay.

    Advice to Management

Should consider revising individual pay according to specific local pay scales.

    Pros

Top performers are routinely recognized for their contribution, and the company has made adjustments to the management structure over the past year to provide more opportunities for advancement. Diversified service lines offer many avenues for employees to advance their careers, if they show initiative and aptitude. Generally speaking, the company places a greater value on quality of work more than quantity of hours. Those who succeed are those who consistently take on challenges, exceed expectations, and ask for more. If you sit back and do your 40 hours per week and wait for a promotion to fall in your lap, well, you may be waiting a long time.

    Cons

Being such a decentralized company, employee engagement is always a challenge. A 40-hour week is definitely not the norm, and you can get overwhelmed if you don't learn to say "no", which you are fully empowered to do. It comes down to each individual's personal work/life balance equation. Even though the company has expanded advancement opportunities, they are still relatively limited. Those who work in remote locations far from the corporate office have to work harder to be recognized for their efforts. Establishing good professional relationships within the company is critical to success, so if you don't possess good interpersonal relationship skills, you are at somewhat of a disadvantage.

    Advice to Management

Continue efforts to improve remote employee engagement. There is still much to be done in this area.

    Pros

I started with EBI after my children were born. It was great to work from home when the kids were small and needed me. Very flexible with hours. If you need to be at home, enjoy doing what you are hired for, and have no interest in doing anything else - it would be a great fit.

    Cons

Next to no opportunity for personal growth or company advancement. Salaried employees are expected to work 50+ hours a week. Part time employees are not paid overtime rates.

    Pros

They're good enough at what they do, and people are generally very nice. Everyone in HR and Marketing is great.

    Cons

There's not enough communication between divisions and it's too much of a family business for what's now a mid-size company. They have no interest in progress.

It's about commodity, and that's what it is all about.

    Pros

Family owned, and you typically work from home. Other than that, there aren't really any positives about working for this company.

    Cons

There are too many to list. The largest obstacle is that currently there are about 450 employees and the normal accompaniment of their work load should be about 800 employees. The typical workload is now running about an 80 hour work week, for which no one at any level is compensated. EBI will promise bonuses, but it would be foolish to count on these, because they never deliver.

To sum it up, there is very little work life balance, and if you only give 50 to 60 hours a week you will be harassed.

    Advice to Management

Management at this point needs to start hiring, otherwise their standing in the field will diminish. There is a high level of burn out associated with all positions mainly because each employee is performing at least three different jobs.

    Pros

    Good company activities for employees

    Cons

EBI's culture is driven my snap decisions, an old school philosophy and a lack of understanding of how to treat people. In addition, poor management, poor overall company organization and awful communication rule the day. Compensation is not worth how this job will take over your life. i.e. the company knows full well there is a 60+ hour week expected of anyone they hire and an expect complete loyalty in return. Communication is just non existent, the company knows this and they choose to ignore it, which feeds directly into an extreme resistance to change.

All of this and more is going on at EBI. Though growing EBI is not setting itself up for any sustained success. The leadership of this family run company is too involved, as the company has 400 employees but is run like there is only 60. This company does not have the ability to get of their own way, which comes down on the employees in the form of poor compensation and long hours as they feel that is the path to productivity.
