I have been working at ECC full-time (More than 8 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, friendly colleagues, flexible schedules for some positions.

    Cons

Greed and putting unqualified "buddies" in leadership positions is sinking what was once an amazing company. The glass ceiling is low and unless you are in HR, no one has broken it. Lots of petty politics keeping good people from getting promoted or recognized.

    Advice to Management

Everyone wants to see things turn around but the problem started long before you were aware of it. Greed and bias aren't great ways to select who moves into leadership roles. Short range, it worked OK. Long range, it destroyed what was once a great little company.

I have been working at ECC (More than 5 years)

    Pros

He came in and was the only person in senior management that was trying. He was the only one who knows what it takes to run a company like this.

    Cons

He must have seen there was no salvation at this point or he was tired of pushing the rock uphill with no help. Beginning of the end.

    Advice to Management

Get your resumes cleaned up like the rest of us and good luck. Hands off our ESOP.

    Pros

Great health insurance program, loved most of my co-workers in my department, good coffee and snacks available, wellness program reimbursed gym membership, nice location in Denver West.

    Cons

Upper management does not listen to concerns of employees, business development professionals pursuing unrealistic bids, laying off quality employees from every department except higher level employees

    Pros

Great people in the office I worked in, still great friends with some folks, good health insurance

    Cons

Where to start?! This company went dramatically downhill several years ago. When I first started, it was great. But leadership incompetence, greed, complete lack of accountability, and the refusal to get rid of dead weight at the top has sunk ECC. When I first started, there were about 40-45 people in my location; I think there may be 10 at this point. This place is beyond dysfunctional - it has had record layoffs in the last 2 years. Nearly my entire department was let go, and many followed after. Here's how screwed up they are - they didn't even inform our HR rep that 6 of us were to be laid off that day until that very morning. She was blindsided, and felt horrible even though it wasn't her fault. These people can't even lay people off right! Mass idiocy and greed abound - stay away. They claim that friendship is a core value, and that they "walk the walk" - what a farce. If you're willing to kiss serious butt and take the credit for other people's work, this is the place for you, but if you're a good person, stay far away.

    Advice to Management

I have plenty of advice, but it's pointless to mention since leadership won't take it.

I have been working at ECC full-time

    Pros

Fully paid personal and dependent health care, good benefits generally; good people and relaxed culture; good infrastructure and established procedures; company has been in business for 2 decades +, good overall reputation with clients and industry. Past 1-2 years could have been better but there are good opportunities for recovery and growth.

    Cons

Currently going through a tough time; changes on client side have also had some impacts on the company. More turnover than is desirable (by employees or management), working to cut costs and stay competitive in a tough environment.

    Advice to Management

Need to stay focused on performance (and consequently, reputation). As the current year has been tough, go the extra mile to ensure people know their efforts are appreciated.

I have been working at ECC full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great people...many who have been there for 20+ years Many clients who are with the firm for 25 years 30 years in business and 28 profitable years with much of the profit has been passed to the Employee Owners in the form of compensation and stock Great Culture of Employee Ownership Lots of authority and responsibility delegated to individuals Core values are still at the "Core" though the values have always been challenged in times of success and challenge Very low turnover in leadership...the people who built the company are mostly still there and still a relatively young Company ECC had the financial strength to weather a couple of tough and lean years, thanks to its people and clients

    Cons

A few projects had dramatic losses in Afghanistan and Kyrgyzstan which impacted everyone The company implemented a tougher level of management discipline Despite the friendly and collaborative culture the tough times call for tough decisions which are often unpopular Most work is for the US Government who has been slow to compensate on claims for the losses above The work has always been project based and every project finishes and then you move on to another location The business has had very high and low earnings which are not consistent US Government funding is much more restricted which drives many of the challenges

    Advice to Management

More communication with the Employees will help them engage and deliver better results Get back to the basics which used to form the basis of everything good about ECC Too many managers which are still there as the company has right sized itself in other ways The world has changed so change with it and don't worry so much about making everyone happy Ensure that your leadership team has the heart to communicate all the news, good and bad
