I have been working at EFI full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Smart people from many different engineering disciplines all working together to bring innovative technologies to market, set in a beautiful location.

    Cons

Some of the facilities are old and run-down looking. Priorities are constantly changing. Difficult to lure top-quality engineers to this location.

I worked at EFI full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Benefits, flexibility with schedules, casual attire, most teams have good composition.

    Cons

Ridiculous clique behavior, unprofessional backbiting and scapegoating, manager playing favorites. The people laid off the last few years are no surprise.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be wary your managers don't leave you open to lawsuits by referring to people's health issues. Encourage proper separation of manager and team familiarity and avoid favoritism.

I have been working at EFI full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Lots of flexibility, best people I've worked with in my entire career. Most people have good attitude and helpful.

    Cons

Company is a bit unorganized. Continuing to buy up companies/competitors to gain market share but no process in integrating them into the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to increase your pay scale to meet the silicon valley standard if you want to keep your good people.

I worked at EFI full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

I was there for a long time I guess that was a positive.

    Cons

The management team, the review process, the lack of bonus and merit increases, the CTO's or known as Company Time Off they forced on you. I could go on.

    Pros

The people are the most important asset to this company

    Cons

The company treats employees like toilet paper

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    I worked at EFI full-time

    Pros

    Good peer support, flexible scheduling

    Cons

The company's upper management makes decisions as often as the wind changes direction. There is never a clear objective to any project and the overall project can change even after substantial investment of time and money. The company will boost about "record breaking revue" yet will not spend any money to improve it's infrastructure and you are always defending your job regardless of how good your performance has been. Within departments there is a sense of two divisions, one are the employees who are favored by the management based on their "ability" to do whatever is passed down without taking a second to review it's overall impact and the second group is those that take a moment to review what is being asked and look for fixes that make sense.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a minute to fully evaluate what you are asking your employees to do. Changing directions in the middle of a project only leads to fustration and money being thrown away with little to no impact on the overall company. And while an overseas presence is required in this day in age, you need to work hard on keeping your team in the US employed.

    I worked at EFI full-time

    Pros

I am well paid for my position, have a career that is bot challenging and rewarding. Good benefits. Company puts your family first on many issues.

    Cons

Sometimes goals and priorities change a little too quickly. More would get done if people were allowed to finish one project before starting another. And of course outsourcing.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please remember that while soft costs do not fit into a spreadsheet, there are some softcosts associated with outsourcing that may exceed the benefit.

I have been working at EFI full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

The flexible work schedule is great. Co-workers are a high point of this job and company. Select managers are willing to mentor those below them.

    Cons

Little room for advancement. Priorities that change abruptly and randomly. A great deal of organizational changes in a short period of time. Severe cost-cutting and off-shoring is reducing morale in the US.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Communicate a complete vision down the ranks and try to eliminate moving targets. Be realistic about the benefits of offshoring versus the costs, both tangible and intangible. Provide your top performers a path to advancement and reward them appropriately.
