    Excellent company with great benefits

Technical Support Engineer III (Current Employee) Duluth, GA

ProsGreat benefits. Good pay. Lots of training. Flexible scheduling. Good time off. Overtime pay. Lots to learn technically. Friendly managers. Intelligent board of directors.

ConsSome holiday work required. Some weekend work required. Not much free food or company outings. Employees in the smaller remote offices are often not given the same perks as employees at corporate or other centers of excellence.

Advice to Senior ManagementDon't forget your employees in the smaller EMC offices.

All that glitters is not gold.

Technical Support Engineer II (Current Employee) Duluth, GA

ProsThey do normally pay over the standard (at least they did in the Atlanta area). They also allowed us to work from home frequently. Great benefits.

ConsIt's all about the mighty dollar. They don't seem to have any concern about the employees themselves. You are constantly blindsided by decisions that significantly alter your employment and life. You can put in numerous hours of overtime, go above and beyond and still not see any compensation while you watch others around you get promoted because they sit around and chit chat directly with the boss.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe worst part of management is that it seems to have revolving doors and none of the visions that any management has get actualized. The direction of the company changes fast. I understand the technology is constantly changing and you have to keep up. However, it would be nice to have notification on how the changes mentioned in the town hall actually are going to effect the different groups. Be upfront and honest and you wont seem so sneaky, manipulative and self centered.

Not as great as they make it seem

Technical Support Engineer II (Former Employee) Duluth, GA

ProsGood benefits. Comfortable salary. They offer work from home positions. Many locations, however they don't have the advantages of the good positions in all of them. They have good business sense, try to stay ahead of the curve, and are profitable. Very good place from a business/market stand point.

ConsNot a good place for growth. Too much politicking. Growth is usually only seen by those who do a lot of schmoozing, not by those who keep their nose to the grind and work hard. And they definitely work you hard and keep expecting more. When they are interested in new technology the just buy the company that already has it. This makes for a not so unified company. Even though the have the motto "one EMC" it feels more like every department is a separate company.

Advice to Senior ManagementNeed to have in house trainers that train specific to the position. Not just use the sales training for every position.

    EMC just so-so to workplace.

Business Operations (Current Employee) Duluth, GA

Prosoverall co-workers and environment is good. Products and Technology is good. Sales side is the best areas to work. Flexible, Offices reside in most major cities.

ConsEMC doesn't give annual raises or compensation regularly. Professional Services side is not highly regarded and very hard to move out of those positions even if you are Rock Star. Work extremely long hours and days always during End of Quarter which always fall around Holidays.

Advice to Senior Managementmake all your employees feel appreciated and not hold all the good fortune in your pockets b/c the company is good due to the employees.

    Corporate Evolution

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Atlanta, GA

ProsIndustry leader in storage solutions with an excellent reputation among most customers. Good product engineering and quality. Good account management and coverage structure for sales and service.

ConsArrogant attitude towards customers and competitors still prevalent even though other viable products and solutions exist. Some complimentary products and solutions such as Celera, Invista, and ECC do not contain the engineering and quality of the Vmax/DMX/Symmetrix. Professional services woefully inept compared to sales and customer service.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in evaluation, development and/or replacement of management talent as necessary instead of reiterating the same strategies and tactics that were successful in the 90's (monopoly days).

Had potential, but management could not execute

Senior Technical Consultant (Former Employee) Atlanta, GA

    ProsGreat for the resume
Confidence that the product you sold was the best in class
Peers were top notch - very talented and a pleasure to work with.

    ConsMiddle Management was weak
Inability to execute or even build a cohesive vision. Vision that were being developed needed to be constantly updated as they were out of date by the time it was released. You'd think since they own vmware, they would have a some story to tell about virtualization.
    Not based in Silicon Valley.
    Not sales focused anymore.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit. Get some new blood, let vmware take over or sell to Cisco.
