Current Employee - Senior Software Engineer in Shanghai, Shanghai (China)

I have been working at EMC full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

work/life balance is pretty good, a lot of trainings if you have time to attend

    Cons

worst line managers I have ever seen:
1, a lot of meetings, most of them are useless, just talk about the same topic again and again
2, does not care about your career path, e.g. never provide any help if you ask for more responsibility
3, managers have absurd mindset: encourage to send out spam emails to increase 'visibility'
4, no product plan, the only work left is to fix bugs, create bugs, and fix again
5, the codebase is obselete, you will not find other jobs with that old technology in EMC, like Eiffel
6, very limited career opportunity: converged storage products, most of the 'improvements' is upgrading the hardware with new intel chips and more disks
7, their 'new technology' is the create some mixture of their disk arrays and vmware products, like VCE
    8, low pay, flat increase
9, manager does not know technology, e.g. mananger does not know how to copy a file in Linux (the product environment is Linux)
    10, no innovation
11, could be a good place if you are in the right team with right product

I worked at EMC full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The GSAP program is designed for the new grads and people with less than 2 years working experience to get into the field of technical support. In the GSAP program, I was provided with 3 months of training (full salary paid during that 3 months), one-one mentorship and a review every 6 months for salary increase.

    Cons

No annual bonus in first two years. Also, due to the need for 24/7 support, the working time is not a normal 9/6 shift.

Current Employee - Software Developer in Shanghai, Shanghai (China)
Current Employee - Software Developer in Shanghai, Shanghai (China)

I have been working at EMC full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Work life balance is pretty good. You can occasionally work from home if you have personal things to handle.

There are many trainings and tech sessions, if you're interested in then it's a good choice to take.

The benefits (excluding pay) is good. Onsite gym, daily fruit, and etc.

    Cons

Pay is below market average, but management says yes.

IT sucks hard, company internal websites are difficult to navigate and use. The vacation system is terrible beyond imagination.

Office environment is poor as well. Construction work takes place every day, every month, never stops, around or within the office.

The managers are incompetent as well. They have no guidance for your career.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Incompetent managers should be cut.

    Negative Outlook
    Disapproves of CEO
