Good place to work and lots to learn....

    Program Manager (Former Employee)
    Hopkinton, MA

ProsAs a program manager you have the opportunity to handle multiple products in a matrix setup.
Had the flexibility to telecommute when necessary.
With the number of acquisitions EMC had there was always an opportunity to take on additional products if you wanted. Tremendous training opportunities.

ConsBig company, mixed culture. Career path not clearly defined. You need to be under the mentorship of the right manager if you want to grow vertically otherwise could stagnate.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease define career paths so that employees who want to climb up the ladder stay motivated and will not leave.

Overall a great place to work.

    Senior Software Engineer (Current Employee)
    Cambridge, MA

ProsFun, fluid and dynamic environment where creativity and problem solving is nourished, and processes and time-keeping are less emphasized. Engineers have a lot of latitude in decision making and technology choices with little overhead. Good salaries with sensible working hours, usually around 40 hours a week.

ConsDeadlines and priorities tend to shift often. Due to a general lack of rigid processes, changes in direction are common and sometimes tend to take engineering off track.

Advice to Senior ManagementManagement is doing a great job at leading this company and innovating further. However, further effort is needed to keep the chaos under control.

    Software Sales Role

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsTravel opportunities as well as the ability to work from home. I am able to manage my own work schedule

ConsSalary and commissions seem to be lower than at most software companies that I compare EMC with. If the sales are there, compensation should follow

    Advice to Senior ManagementNone

It is better place to launch a career but if you want to advance your career path, it is better to find another place.

    Technical Architect (Current Employee)
    Hopkinton, MA

    ProsGood pay and better benefits

ConsSenior level management especially in some product group really doesn't know how to run business; too much political joggling. I also see some of the managers care about more of their personal relationship than their group's success.

Advice to Senior ManagementHigh level managers should check more what is happening in the low level.
