Pros
Great technology. Good product line. Nice health benefits
Cons
They don't care about letting their employees go
Advice to Senior Management
Talk to the employee directly before making any decisions. Don't rely just on feedback from others.
Lower your rates on professional services
Pros
EMC is incredibly flexible with your schedule. Generous with benefits (insurance, 401k, Tuition Reimbursement). Great with providing training. Lots of very intelligent employees.
Cons
An incredible bureaucracy! There is a fundamental systematic lack of process. This is all the problems of a startup in a large company.
Advice to Senior Management
Drive agile project management methodologies! Hire and retain people local to the project customers. Keep project teams close together. Allow quicker growth.
Pros
Large Stable Company, Good Locations
Cons
Large Company, Management Structure is ancient.
Advice to Senior Management
Think agility, think start-up. The only thing cool at EMC for the past few years has been its checkbook and VMware
Pros
- Work from home
- Work life balance
Cons
- poor compensation over years
- depends on division performance and not overall company performance.
Pros
Market and customer focused. Great place for those who perform.
Cons
Has little patience with non performers
Advice to Senior Management
Leverage the strong talent pool better.
Pros
great place - good areas within the company and good people - great opportunities for hard work and knowledge gain in world class areas.
Cons
Be aware of typical incompentent managers or directors - horrible backstabbing managers/directors who don't know how they are in management positions they are only looking to cover for themselves - not their direct reports - cover and document and protect.yourself.
Advice to Senior Management
open your mind and take a lot of team building classes - stop misleading upper management as to the status of projects and different efforts going on - you can't fix what you don't acknowledge.
Pros
It is a high tech company so if you like change then it is a great place to work. I have enjoyed ever minute of it.
Cons
Compensation is a bit below average
Advice to Senior Management
Keep up the good work!
Pros
I can't find any reason. Maybe getting an EMC certificate (just the BRAND) that it may help me to find another job and to start rebuilding my career.
Cons
After one year of joining the consultancy organisation, my career development is close to collapse... I lost my professionalism touch and I am almost a Cloud cowboy by now and this is a genuine situation..
The management are living outside this world and lack basic management skills, I would not trust any of them to look after my cat.
Some of their sales and competition practices are really awful.
Advice to Senior Management
To the senior Management in the top sitting in Boston, get ride of the culture of licking the customer a** and fire GS middle managers. or just break away the consultancy division and let them clean themselves.
Pros
Job security is pretty stable, alot of very talented people (aside from the obvious intellects, alot of skilled people that can offer the company great value. Alot of the acquisitions are very interesting...*ahem VMware, Greenplum...
Cons
When they layoff it's pretty much across the board. They have the talent, but keeping them happy and away BS politics seems difficult, and they leave. Like all absorbed companies, assimilating to corporate seems like a one way street, previous office culture dies if you're not near headquarters.
Advice to Senior Management
Rally the troops, working with less isn't always the solution. Try streamlining processes.
Pros
Work Life balance. Co-workers are amazing and professionalism. Also the management is very approachable without close doors (up to the VP levels).
Cons
Takes a while to move up in the organization as there is very little people you leave the organization. However, people are quick to refer you in new positions and promotions when available.
Advice to Senior Management
MBA for payment over a 2-5 year plan to allow employees to know benefits, raises, stock options, and future career growth.
