Pros
People respect and support each other
Decent compensation
You have room to make initiatives
Great managers
Cons
As an R&D center, it's very focused on technical details. The developer team has limited access to corporate strategy information
Pros
there are good benefits, and opportunites to develop your career. If you put in the effort it will be noticed
Cons
having to work absolutely crazy hours at quarter end, and sometimes needing to get time off can be quite difficult
Advice to Senior Management
my advice is not for middle management but for senior management, do not forget that any cuts you make or reallocation of resources will always have an affect on performance
Pros
Great place to start out of college
Good health benefits
Company is focused on training which is great
Opportunity to travel
Overtime is always availabe
Cons
Salaries are not competitive
Lots of overtime, work/life balance
Non-stop demands, even after hours
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees, especially the customer facing ones, they are the ones out in the trenches.
Pros
Lots of training; Good salary; Nice facilities; Spares no expense; Industry leader; Good support; One stop shop; Elite team; Skilled Co-workers
Cons
Somewhat of a "Boys Club"; Senior Management needs improvement; Overworked - Terrible work / life balance; Don't pay for overtime
Advice to Senior Management
Think of something other than Wall Street; Focus on the employee and they will perform for you; Can't replace years of experience with TSAPs.
Pros
Better work place to show case our talents in all areas that we are interested. Recognition for the work will be great.
Cons
It depends on the team we join . Some of the BU's have really tough and challenging work that keeps on coming and few have the same monotonous job.
Advice to Senior Management
The freedom of choosing the project and team should be given to the new college hires joining the company.
Pros
If you are interested in seeing the future of technology, then EMC is the front seat of your dreams.
If you like to take vacation time, you will have the opportunity.
Everyone here is happy with their job.
Cons
It is big like a bank which bought 50 smaller ones, so working here with another "team" is like trying to get a bad tenant to pay the rent.
Politics
Everyone is ALWAYS on Vacation.
It seems some employees spend all their time getting others to do their work for them or pretending they are doing lots themselves. Most commonly in marketing where they will benefit from good results BECAUSE of good products and services regardless of their projects and initiatives.
Advice to Senior Management
The organizational hierarchy could be better explained.
Pros
Solid benefits, solid pay. Exposure to emerging technology. Excellent support system for problem escalation. Free training on EMC products (excellent Video ILT Series.) When consulting, very little hassle from management regarding timecards, time off, and other logistics. EMC World is a blast.
Cons
If consulting, take care to not sign on with a difficult customer or be placed in permanent residency. These situations tend to see high turnover and EMC simply cannot afford to move you out. Take particular care in the federal sector., aim for commercial if at all possible.
Advice to Senior Management
Leverage employee skill-set in the consulting arena by assigning them with matching customers. The right fit for the right employee will reward EMC and their customer in the long-run.
Pros
Compensation and benefits were very good.
Cons
Lots of weekend and overnight work.
Advice to Senior Management
None.
Pros
Few projects in the EMC are really good and are on cutting edge technology. The horizontal knowledge can grow by working in this company
Cons
The work in India is mostly defect fixing, very less full fledged feature developemnt in India.
The company may put you on any kind of work which may not be in alignment with one's expertise.
Advice to Senior Management
- Do care about employees aspirations
- More feature developement work should come to India COE.
- The management should be given training on when and why should the employees be praised and recognized.
Pros
Well known for its excellent storage products. It owns VMware and RSA Security and both companies offer great products.
Cons
EMC regularly does layoffs to stay profitable. Reorganizations are routine and if you are new, you will probably lose your job. Pay is lower than their competitors and culture is tough - not people oriented. EMC and CA have similar cultures....
Management only care about themselves not their employees professional growth.
Advice to Senior Management
Need major shakeup here. Get rid of some of the older managers and bring in some new blood to change the culture.
