I have been working at EMC full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    they provide competative salary
consistent stock awards for hard work
    young culture
    flexable work schedue
    nice work life ballance
    above average benefit package
    everyone is very nice

    Cons

there is little room for growth in a technical position. they tend to hire outside people for management positions so don't dream of working your way into a management role. also there are not a wide range of products to work on should you get bored with your current position.

I have been working at EMC full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Started here in 2014 with no expectations and have been pleasantly surprised every day. The environment is excellent, the work is exciting and challenging. Even management is actively involved. There is politicking, like every company, but it is very low-key and private.
The employees are treated like adults and are expected to deliver like adults.
Regardless of differences, everyone treats each other very well.
    Also, the flexibility is fantastic.
    So far, so good.

    Cons

At times, there are too many people involved in a work activity. Meetings are big around here. Besides that, I haven't been here long enough for the shine to wear off.

I have been working at EMC full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

    * Employee friendly policies
    * Brand name
    * Future seems to be good for storage business and EMC is well placed
    * Pay is good for performers

    Cons

    * No value for Quality Assurance groups
    * Too many employees even when not required, leading to politics
    * Too many mangers (in some groups ratio is 1:5) and managers are non-technical

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    * So many managers are not required, it leads to politics among mangers as there is no clearly defined role and multiple managers seems to be working on same things
    * Quality of product will not improve until Quality teams are treated equal to development teams

I have been working at EMC full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

-Great Internal Training opportunities for individual contributors, to Manager and Executive Level
-Great company for self starters, "doers" whom take ownership of work and the direction of their future careers
-Empower Employees to do the job they were hired to do
-Fast paced, never a dull day

    Cons

Long Hours - part and parcel of a US based MNC I guess

I have been working at EMC full-time for more than 8 years

    Pros

Work with smart, dedicated people from different cultures
Work from home policy provides quality of life benefit
    Excellent benefits package
Opportunities to move within the company

    Cons

Using 1990s business practices and applications in most of the operational groups but they still keep the same leadership in place making the same bad operational decisions

IT is completely dysfunctional at EMC. It takes a herculean effort to get basic things accomplished and people who are successful just learn to navigate the system. Accenture is everywhere and basically runs IT. People are drowning in processes

Raises are infrequent. It is common HR practice to only give annual raises to the top 30%. As a result, pay is below industry average. Company uses salary + bonus to calculate comparisons with straight salary at other companies.

The culture is incestuous and has an old boys network which is a throwback to the company's early days that remains in place. They value longevity vs.experience brought in from the outside which results in "group think" and lack of innovation.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Look at fresh ideas from new talent.
Invest your IT dollars more wisely - Accenture consultants who have been with EMC for years have lost their justification for higher pay. Convert these people or replace them with full time.

I worked at EMC as an intern for more than a year

    Pros

    Lots of experiences to learn
Options to work on different projects and teams
Flexible schedules, great pay, and friendly staff

    Cons

Poor communication between remote teams, especially lab teams in other areas
Loss of more senior employees throughout internship doesn't inspire confidence in continuing with the product

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you can't hold on to senior staff, then something is wrong

    Pros

    Well established
    Focused
    Heavy on resources
    Leader in the industry

    Cons

I was west coast based and all attention is focused on east coast and doing business that way
    Not flexible
    Little to no career advancement

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Embrace those attitudes and business practices of the companies you acquire. In addition trust that different regions have different and sometime better ways of attacking and succeeding in business.
