I have been working at EMC

    Pros

The benefits here are good. The company is on top and still on the rise. The management knows what they are doing and where they are going.

    Cons

Salary is lower than average despite the good benefits. The future career plans of the individual is not particularly cared for.

    I worked at EMC

    Pros

Good benefits that are evaluated and improved each year. Well respected company. Sales team is very strong.

    Cons

Management is confused on what to do. This is company that sells an on-premise storage hardware and the market is no longer growing. They are searching for an identity. Re-orgs and name changes for divisions is common. They encourage multiple teams to work on the same project and don't mind the inefficiency in that. Hiring practices are atrocious. Salaries are way behind the competition. Too many acquisitions without proper integration, so you'll work with teams that aren't even on the network yet, don't use the same tools, etc. Facilities in some locations are great and in others they are way below standard. There is a reason the stock price has been stagnant for the last 6 years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Figure out the vision and actually get behind it. You can't expect to compete with the big boys but not actually invest in it or keep the people around that can affect change. Pay competitive salaries and fix the government red-tape approach to every aspect of the business.

I have been working at EMC full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Plenty of career growth. They encourage career growth and knowledge gain. They reward this well. The teams are great and the work culture is outstanding.

    Cons

High stress work. Many times asked to skip lunch because of number of cases/calls waiting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep everything transparent and project for more headcount.

I have been working at EMC full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Great opportunity to learn and work with great solutions

    Cons

Once acquired company if fully under wing its all ugly business, bottom dollar only, get things as cheap as possible but sell at high as possible. All driven from small centralized HQ vacuum.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try not to be so cold and calculating about everything. Share a little more

I have been working at EMC full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great benefits, including work from home option, healthcare covering family members, paid charity leave. Good training opportunities.

    Cons

Can become too specialized. Very little upward mobility, people stay in the same role for years. Has an institution feeling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Manage! Individuals not pulling their weight are damaging to morale in general. Need to provide serious opportunities for career growth, because there's plenty elsewhere around here.

I have been working at EMC

    Pros

EMC is a great company with a huge future. They are number one in their industry. Great executive team. Great benefits.

    Cons

The ratio of presales employees to products/offerings (from their portfolio) is way off. Each Engineer has to know, and speak to, the whole portfolio during sales campaigns and its just too much responsibility and as such everyone is more of a generalist.

Large company with good benefits. Solid revenue stream.

    Cons

Growth has slowed, and stock price is fairly stagnant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't need to look outside to fill senior leadership roles. Plenty of talent in house.

I have been working at EMC full-time

    Pros

The people on your teams are great, top notch. Everyone has support for all products and campaigns and pitches in whenever needed. Very bright and pleasant to work with. Pay is pretty good as is standard benefits such as health insurance, life insurance (and even pet insurance). Flexible hours should you need it (kids, commute, etc).

    Cons

Management. It's a good old-boys club both in corporate and in the BUs. Management has hired a lot of their buddies with little/poor experience and gotten rid of numerous rock star employees. While a known practice, it's still not wise to replace competent, proven employees just to give you frat brother from 20+ years ago a job. It's beginning to show - product quality has tanked, investors are unhappy and stock price is shaky. There has been a mass exodus over the year and will certainly continue. It's an aging workforce that is not attracting young, bright Silicon Valley talent due to its archaic management and lack of perks - like shuttle transportation, good food, employee campus events, campus bikes, etc. Also, very much lacks diversity in upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring your friends and hire who is best for the job. Come into the current times with employee perks.
