    Pros

You're surrounded by seasoned professionals in the IT industry who are willing to help you learn and help you grow your career path. Furthermore, the flex time in hours is great and really allows for you create a schedule that works great for both your team and commute.

    Cons

With EMC being an East Coast based company it is sometimes difficult to feel connected to the decision making for those that are based on the West Coast. Overall there are many great efforts that are being made to keep West Coasters in the loop.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the great work! But always find time to take a step back and take time to look at our competitors, and how EMC can modernize. EMC is an amazing company with growing potential and just needs to keep up with the fast moving Silicon Valley, which I'm sure is difficult since being based on the East Coast.

I worked at EMC full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits and salaries, good opportunities for project managers and managers in general. Good work/life balance in general. This is a great company if you are interested in managing remote overseas teams.

    Cons

When companies need to get a new technology, most companies will hire the right talent and do the R&D work to develop the technology. EMC follows a different strategy. Instead of developing new technologies, it waits for startups to develop what EMC needs, and buys the startups. Once the startup company is bought, EMC follows a pattern that I have seen over and over again with many acquisitions. First, funding for new projects is cut off, and engineering is asked to focus on helping the customers and to do sustainability and bug fixing. Second, outsourcing starts. It starts with outsourcing QA, usually test automation as a way to save money, and then outsourcing continues with development. After some time, most of the best engineers in the original startup get fed up with the lack of challenging work, cash their stock, and leave the company. This makes it more difficult to hire talent locally, which EMC responds to by outsourcing even more. At some point all engineering work there is left is sustainability, the best engineers left, and most work happens overseas. Backed up by a strong EMC sales force, EMC keeps getting money out of the acquisition as long as possible, until it is time to buy the next technology by buying the next company. And the cycle goes on.

    Advice to Management

If you work in a company that gets acquired by EMC, try to keep your company's culture for as long as possible. And when you feel your company's culture has changed, just leave like everybody else.

I have been working at EMC full-time

    Pros

Overall company performance is great, the storage products are free cash flows which enable them to reinvest the money into merger and acquisition strategy. Company offers great compensation and work life balance.

    Cons

EMC is a very well established company with mature processes and business cycles, which means a mature culture with focus of performance and metrics.

    Advice to Management

Company operates on a strict financial metrics which is not typical for a company in the technology industry. Tight budget means restricted or no travel, and no company sponsored outings for employees. Company sponsored social events are great ways to engage with employees to improve morale and team building as well as recruiting as finding the right talent is so very hard in this competitive economy.

I have been working at EMC (More than 10 years)

    Pros

EMC has a wide variety of options to explore in storage. Perks, benefits, etc are good. RSUs are absolutely less compared to other companies.

    Cons

Culture is pathetic. You need to seek multiple approvals to innovate anything in the product. Laid back people would resist anything new in the product. Product Management is not on top of products and competition, they stay in shadows.

    Advice to Management

Improve culture for innovation and stop integrating with products. Let teams innovate, provide them a problem and ask them to solve. Leadership keeps changing and it has negative effect on productivity and time to market. Leadership is NOT bold to mention truth and dig into details before making decisions.
