    Pros

Good place to learn about the cloud Strong sales processes and culture Lots of training

    Cons

Alpha (white middle class, middle aged) Male dominated Operates with a fear of failure culture Obsessive about minutiae of reporting data which drowns all Very little scope for innovation or free thinking Outdated views and Management Style from the top down Awful Senior Management, the vast majority of whom have been there >10 years and have lost touch with civilisation

    Advice to Management

Leave and let more agile, free thinkers takeover to release the innovation that is so desperately required!

Fine for presales storage geeks, otherwise avoid.

    Pros

EMC Presales is a good place for a relatively young technologist who wants to get a 1st.-Class grounding in the latest storage and backup technology and products. The product portfolio is outstanding and acquisitions strategy spot-on. If you are in a buoyant sales sector then all will be well and you'll have a lot to contribute and will get good experience. You'll get the training, visits to EMC World, and investment you need if you're in this core area.

    Cons

There are a lot of passive-aggressive people working in EMC at every level: it is the corporate culture. You are likely to fall foul of these people even if you don't consciously antagonise them. Top-down, targets are set internally and there's a constant atmosphere of threat if they're not met. Yet internal processes are obscure and convoluted. This is not a cloud or big data company, or agile apps company, despite the rhetoric. Group companies like VCE (converged infrastructure) and VMWare are independent P&Ls and often work as much against as with EMC core sales teams.

    Advice to Management

Leave. You're even more vulnerable than customer-facing presales.

    Pros

Cant think of any good points about the company

    Cons

Decisions take weeks and then they aren't communicated effectively It's sales lead environment and if you aren't in sales, then you really get thin end of the wedge No openness in dealing with staff issues

    Advice to Management

Look at your retention rates, lowest in the IT sector! Employ managers who can actually manage staff, not just give them The title of manager
