I have been working at ENVIRON full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good work culture, not as political as big companies can be. Most people have good work ethics. Depending on what area you're in (i.e. consulting vs. support), you have good progression opportunities.

    Cons

Very little vacation time and too much sick time available. Could encourage more healthy work culture like healthy snacks or fruits available in office, encourage people to work from home, etc.

    Pros

Good pay for higher-level managers. Plenty of room to practice your areas of interest with relatively little interference from the management. Good network of offices in the UK, Germany, and the USA. Air group is world class.

    Cons

Management does not provide much direction or guidance on the future of its staff and the company. Utilization rates and multipliers are relatively high for managers. You are asked to work and sell but get little support for the latter.

    Pros

    Consulting work is never boring
The people in Nashville were great to work with, I miss the friendships

    Cons

Bonus structure discourages collaboration among managers and different offices
Nashville office still behaves like its not part of the rest of the company
Growth is all through acquisitions, no organic growth seen in the company
Each manageing principal treats his office like a personal fiefdom.

I worked at ENVIRON full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

professional support, training, benefits, frequent exposure to various practice areas--brown bags, opportunities to work on projects outside your proper practice area. The people are smart, genuine, mostly excellent at their jobs, much nicer to work with than those in the East (e.g., Princeton, Arlington).

    Cons

Company: pay, work/life balance, chronically low budgets to stay competitive (billing rates are higher than those of the general market). Industry: repetitive work, management roles didn't appear very interesting.

Smart people, entrepreneurial., some interesting projects

    Cons

Poor leadership, everyone for him/herself reward structure, nepotism, unclear career path, unclear vision for company, lack of accountability, little investment in employee training/career

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward structure actively discourages collaboration, unclear vision for future, no succession plan

I have been working at ENVIRON full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good opportunities to show your stuff and get rewarded. My office is great to work in - opportunities to try different practice areas.

    Cons

Typical consulting - work long and/or irregular hours, and don't always get noticed for it. Also, if you don't go network and drum up work, you'll be in bad shape come review time. This company also has plenty of nepotism around, which can be discouraging/frustrating. They also did away with bonuses for associates recently.

I have been working at ENVIRON full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Flexible working environment
Was able to work with a lot of people in other offices
Good training opportunity – conference and some other online training classes
Good rewarding policy: promotion and salary increase

    Cons

Over time is NOT paid at all

Inefficiencies in the processing workflows and controls - Associates did the same thing again and again without clear instructions

Principles/Managers are good engineers, but not professional managers. You have to be very very proactive to gain feedback to keep career moving forward

Work can be very repetitive - Associates dis the same kind of reports/calculation for different clients again, again and again

Some managers have their favorite associates and don't trust any others. Some associates had very had time to learn new things and do different projects

Office environment is weird - company hires the family members of potential clients and promote the people that are not qualified

Principle consultant does not appreciate the overtime hard work of associates and always give last minutes request

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Appreciate the hard working people and reward them

Dynamic work experience for an internship

Former Employee - Environmental Engineering Intern

I worked at ENVIRON as an intern

    Pros

The office where I worked was small which proved to be beneficial. This allowed everyone, even though they had their own focus areas, to work on a variety of projects and technical areas. As an intern, I really enjoyed working in such a dynamic work environment where I had the opportunity to be exposed to so many areas working with such experienced leaders in their field. Whereas in other internships, I was cornered into working on only one technical area and the work remained very stagnant.

    Cons

You would expect that a small office would be much closer and social than large corporate settings. However, in this case, most of the associates would keep to themselves in their cubicles. The managers were on the phones all day so they always were the more sociable ones. It was very normal for me to leave the office with a hoarse voice because I had not spoken all day practically.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Improve workplace relations and atmosphere
