    Pros

The pay is good and the local company (subsidiary or EPCOR in Canada) is small enough to have very little bureaucracy. They look to treat employees right, good benefits with a superb focus on safety!

    Cons

The Company has entrenched management with very little room for upward movement for middle and upper management.

    Advice to Management

When there is not enough room to promote look to allow for more lateral movement of employees so that they may keep learning and enjoying their job.

    Pros

I had the best Leader as my boss for the first 8 years working for the company

    Cons

I was on vacation when my next supervisor was hired, micromanaged everything, would not take any suggestions from anybody, I consider that person as a "Boss" not a LEADER.

    Pros

EPCOR focuses on more than providing a service – they consider the communities they service as home. As a contract employee I was not eligible for their benefits but they have a very competitive salary structure, an incentive award program for all employees and a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental and vision. They offer generous time-off schedules, training opportunities, tuition reimbursement, and certification support.
They believe in investing in employee development.

    Cons

Nothing that I can specifically identify as a con.

    Advice to Management

Continue to develop current employees and develop a strong intern or trainee program to ensure pool of qualified water and wastewater operators.

    Pros

Stability, reasonably good salary, interesting work.

    Cons

Not much room to move unless you're a professional Engineer.

    Advice to Management

We're about to get a new CEO. I hope the next one has a vision and sticks around for longer than two years...

    Pros

A great company to work for if you want to grow your career. EPCOR's reputation/expertise in the areas of water & power has led to their growth/expansion for the past century and that's something that will continue into the next, etc.

If you work hard, there are lots of opportunities to move around the company and because there's so many different areas, l've seen lots of people jump to something new.

    Cons

Quite a complex/large company. Different areas have different regulations/processes, so you'll see differences between areas of the business.

    Advice to Management

    Keep doing what you're doing.

    Pros

Great people and company culture, plenty of opportunity to move up and to work in different areas of the company, very competitive pay, challenging work, and employees with pride. Plus the company provides service for people in Edmonton, which is an awesome city.

    Cons

I feel fortunate and proud to work for this company. I have no cons.

  9. Good for someone looking for a transitional/in-between job, not for long term career.

    Pros

    Call center hires @$21(2015)
Pretty good benefits if you can get a permanent position

    Cons

    Nepotism
    Unfair hiring system
    New Hire hazing & Bullying
    Taking credit for employees ideas
Politics and drama out of control
No accountability to employees in a lower rank to them
Work/Home life balance only according to "business needs"
Not flexible with appointments & scheduling
VERY strict with late & absence from work telling employee to focus on health but wont accommodate medical appointments
If more than 4 lates you cannot apply for any other internal postings

    Advice to Management

    Change management!
New hire employees that are good leaders are singled out and bullied in most cases, practically forced to leave. EPCOR has so much potential, they just need to get their hands dirty and get rid of some rotten apples. When one person is being complained about often, maybe its a sign to get rid of them.
There are many departments within EPCOR, I think that some are better than others. The Call Center environment is quite toxic, not good for a full time job, but good for students as currently they DO respect student schedules & work around their classes.

    Pros

The benefits are amazing, defined benefit pension plan, good people

    Cons

Water isn't exactly the most dynamic and exciting of fields, company is in the utility sector which is known to be steady, however that can make for boring work environments. Not enough collaboration among staff everyone was stuck in their own silo.

    Advice to Management

Management should consider encouraging their teams to be more dynamic, there should be more cross training and movement within the company especially if you want to keep younger staff for the long term.
