I have been working at EPCOR full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

The pay is good and the local company (subsidiary or EPCOR in Canada) is small enough to have very little bureaucracy. They look to treat employees right, good benefits with a superb focus on safety!

    Cons

The Company has entrenched management with very little room for upward movement for middle and upper management.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When there is not enough room to promote look to allow for more lateral movement of employees so that they may keep learning and enjoying their job.

I worked at EPCOR full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

I had the best Leader as my boss for the first 8 years working for the company

    Cons

I was on vacation when my next supervisor was hired, micromanaged everything, would not take any suggestions from anybody, I consider that person as a "Boss" not a LEADER.

I have been working at EPCOR as a contractor (more than 8 years)

    Pros

EPCOR focuses on more than providing a service – they consider the communities they service as home. As a contract employee I was not eligible for their benefits but they have a very competitive salary structure, an incentive award program for all employees and a comprehensive benefits package including health, dental and vision. They offer generous time-off schedules, training opportunities, tuition reimbursement, and certification support.
They believe in investing in employee development.

    Cons

Nothing that I can specifically identify as a con.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to develop current employees and develop a strong intern or trainee program to ensure pool of qualified water and wastewater operators.

I have been working at EPCOR full-time

    Pros

Lots of room to grow, experiment and learn within the company, especially for young professionals. Pay and benefits are fantastic, and the people are like family.

    Cons

This isn't really a con ... But since growth is important, many people get shifted to new positions so it can be hard to remember who manages what.

I have been working at EPCOR

    Pros

    Great hourly wage
    Great Benefits
Great for students (school schedule is kept in mind when schedule for work is made)
    Job rotations and shadows available

    Cons

Job postings are made but people who will be selected are pre decided
Stupid people lead teams (selected due to connections within company)
unions also unable to do anything

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

EPCOR Water Services is not a safe place to work.

I have been working at EPCOR full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

-Jobs have potential (however poor management forces good employees to leave).
    -Good benefits

    Cons

-Talk about safety, but have no idea what they are talking about. Safety is an inconvenience
-No "team work", no leadership.....you are on your own.
-Managers are on average not competent for their roles, which leads to toxic work environment.
-EPCOR Water Services still behaves like it "is" the City of Edmonton. It needs to "grow up" as a company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop hiring managers that need to threaten people, they will never be good managers, cut them free when they are reported.

I worked at EPCOR full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Epcor is the type of company to join in you like hiding responsibility and doing no work

    Cons

If you are at all ambitious it is not the place to be

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Trim the fat

    I worked at EPCOR

    Pros

Good resources, good support and guaranteed work from the City of Edmonton and other parts of EPCOR.

    Cons

Director and Senior Managers are useless and don't have clue, and related ecperience; they are selected by politics rather than qualifications. Frankly speaking they are wasting company resources and reputations as well as relationships with the City. They are unable to motivate operations folks, creating safe culture and profitability. They are creating divisions to remain in their positions, creating noxious environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Restructure, assigning talented people

  11.

    Keep it in the family

I worked at EPCOR full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good pay, provides PPE, Equipment is generally in good working order and will get repaired if that's not the case. BBQs and appreciation events are nice.

    Cons

Nepotism is rampant. It's stated by managers often that they prefer to hire family of current employees. Unprofessional management and poor handling of safety issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Have upfront conversations with your employees in advance of issues. Have these conversations at an advance meeting time instead of making everything a surprise. Don't make employees who get injured feel like criminals.
