I have been working at EPFL full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Access to vast resources, people and view!

    Cons

As everything in Switzerland, things are slow, very slow. Don't expect much from administrative staff. Student services are non-existent. Good luck finding housing, the university doesn't care.

I have been working at EPFL full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

International working environment with lots of interactions among the different research groups. Good salary, motivated people, and excellent facilities and beautiful surroundings. Less of a corporate mentality Furthermore, as a an employee, you've access to a collection of workshop / courses helping you to develop your skills. Good springboard for going abroad.

    Cons

Job security is not high working in academia and that also applies to EPFL. Overly consensus driven, decisions/policies can be very difficult and a decentralized organisation making some things hard to get done.
The corporate world is more meritocratic of nature.

I have been working at EPFL part-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good environment, buildings, teachers at EPFL. The school has a lot of research going on and interesting opportunities for PHDs and students.

    Cons

I think EPFL should offer internship or help students finding an internship as undergrad and not only as master students. It would be great to have a first experience before entering the master.

I have been working at EPFL full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Switzerland is a rich country and for this reason most of swiss students easily find a job after the bachelor or master degree, few of them are interested in getting a phd. EPFL has therefore the necessity to import students from all over the world creating a very rich and international environment.

    Cons

The salary is high compared to other universities in europe but barely sufficient to have a decent life in expensive Lausanne...

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

To involve so much phd students in didactics takes away too much time from their research...
