I have been working at EPIC Systems full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Salary is quite high for entry level positions. Expectation that employees will work hard/long hours. No overtime pay. Fairly easy to move up what little corporate ladder there is.

    Cons

Assumed that employees with work hard. Little opportunity for a social life. You have to move to Madison Wisconsin.

    Advice to Management

Company seems to be growing quickly and they're hiring a lot of new employees, though this may be because employees leave shortly after being hired.

    Pros

Paid flight and food. Good introduction to environment and employees. Theoretical questions for implementations removed fear of language-specific errors.

    Cons

    Middle of nowhere Wisconsin.

    Pros

The money is okay, Madison is nice, it's a good first job

    Cons

40 hours per week is apparently not enough, no overtime compensation, nearby housing is increasing in price because there is too much demand, people keep leaving (or being forced to leave)

I have been working at EPIC Systems full-time

    Pros

The casual atmosphere is amazing with individual or paired offices, themed buildings, and the culinary team is great. You also feel very secure in your job since you get weekly feedback from your boss.

    Cons

Work-life balance is not considered. You're expected to reach above and beyond, and that means working long hours

    Advice to Management

Shape the culture to value balance in work, and you might not have so many people leaving every year. Even if the claim that our retention rate is similar to other tech companies is true, it sure doesn't feel like it when you're working there.

    Pros

Excellent opportunities for growth! Team leads encourage you to pursue passions. Lots of on the job training.

    Cons

Many employees get stuck in the mindset that working long hours is key to success. This is a great first job, but something about the position doesn't sell itself as a longterm career.

I have been working at EPIC Systems full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Quality Assurance at Epic is extremely flexible. You really make the job what you want. you can sit in your office all day and test test test or become involved in more company initiatives and get involved in meetings more. Culture at Epic is fantastic. You probably won't realize this until you leave. Work hours are fine in QA. 40-50 is the average unless you drag your feet then it can easily jump up and you can feel you are working more and more.

    Cons

QA can be seen as bottom of the barrel at times and in large part this is related to the above pro. Certain QAers are satisfied to sit and test. If you apply yourself to reach out more and get involved and communicate with other roles your respect will increase. You have to look for the opportunities though and contribute.
