    Pros

Established, stable product lines that often sell themselves. Overall the company is stable and doesn't make rash decisions; they won't fire anyone without really good reason and are cautious about everything. They stick to what they know and when they enter a new market, they don't do it without good research.

Decent learning opportunity for engineers if they have the drive for it. Room for some growth and development. ERICO has a very diverse product offering that presents good experience.

Good place to get your foot in the door. There seems to be some awareness among the people who run the place that ERICO has some areas requiring significant improvement.

Overall, not a bad place to work but not a retirement plan by any means.

    Cons

Slow. Sooo slow. Older generations of management have their hearts set on being involved when really they're just slowing things down and not really adding any value to the process. The organization is overly cautious and lags behind the rest of industry in terms of systems and process development (information systems are antiques and there is no lean manufacturing, for example). They are also very risk adverse to a fault.

Pay is not great. In fact, it's abysmal in some cases but they seem aware of that and are trying to fix it.

Company culture is a joke. They think adding "ERI-" to the start of everything makes it unique but there is no annual Christmas party or even company sanctioned extra-curricular activities.

Bonus Day is an annual hazing ritual that should be abolished.

    Advice to Management

Cut some of the red tape and let your lower levels of management have more decision making capabilities. Upgrade your computer systems and unify them.

Nuture the ERICO culture by encouraging company-wide team building activities between all levels and varieties of people at ERICO.

Cut the Bonus Rookies ritual before there's a lawsuit on the books.

    Pros

Very nice place to work. Employees are very respectful of one another from the top on down. Executives do care about employees. I believe they are truly trying to make things better while running the day-to-day business of the company. Very focused product management and development. ERICO is always researching new markets and products.

    Cons

Changes are slow. Too much micro-management from the top. Owner's ideas are antiquated and put employees in a frozen state regarding promotion, working part-time, or job sharing..

    Advice to Management

Too many people involved in decision-making process for the simplest of changes. Many projects that start off as being top priority get moved to the bottom and then a year later, become a top priority again. Then after more months of hard work, the project gets moved back to the bottom and seemingly forgotten; then back to top priority, down to bottom, etc., etc. Some projects are never looked at again. This is frustrating to the employee who has worked hard to develop and organize the project.

    Pros

Incredible friendly culture, work with no pressure. Lots of team work and they listen to new ideas and strategies

    Cons

Hard to move up the ladder, compensation is below average and commissions and bonuses are not only capt but big part of them are tied to other regions performance.

    Advice to Management

Update salaries, change commission plan and pay each Qtr not once a year. Don't demotivate your top performers

    Pros

There are lots of opportunities to develop for you career as you are encouraged to go out and receive additional training on the company's dime. The people are fantastic and are willing to help in any way they can. There is a lot of work to do so there aren't many days spent at your desk twiddling your thumbs.

    Cons

When first starting, there was a lot of grunt work to be done. While this is meant to help you learn the plant and procedures, it goes on longer than necessary. As per usual with any job, there is bureaucracy when it comes to spending money for projects.

    Advice to Management

Allow for more involvement early on and don't rely on only grunt work to learn the processes in the plant.

    Pros

Love the people. It was a great group to work with. People tend to stay longer than most places (avg. 10+ years). Upper management cared about their employees first before company's profit. Best learning experience. If you wanted to learn or get involved with a specific technology or a different aspect of the business, all you had to do was ask.

    Cons

Average base pay, bonuses decreasing yearly (used to be exceptional!), mediocre benefits (used to be great!), NO work-life balance although they claim to promote family, they expect you to be ON 24/7. Spent many holidays working at the cost of my family.

    Advice to Management

Practice what you preach and pay attention to your middle management. They are the ones pushing their employees to make themselves look good to upper management.

    Pros

Great culture (sounds trite, but it’s true)
Amazing co-workers, the majority of people bleed “ERICO blue”
There is an actual strategic plan for growth – and management willingly and openly shares that with every employee to make sure they understand it
The Executive Management Team is first-rate, with a number of high-caliber individuals
The current ERICO is much less political than the ERICO of old
Numerous career paths available, including international postings
Our new president – Dan Mominee
Weathered the “Great Recession” without resorting to layoffs, paid year-end bonuses every year to salaried and hourly employees, and continued to make investments that will allow us to grow as the economy improves

    Cons

Very lean in some areas, need to add some staff
Benefits used to be a LOT better
    401k match isn’t competitive
We lack a barista on site

    Advice to Management

Continue to share our strategy for the future with all of the employees, that transparency and the fact that we actually have a plan goes a long way to allay employee fears in an uncertain economy.

    Pros

The only good thing I can say about Erico is it is very easy to move to different roles. This is nice if you are just starting out and you are not exactly sure what you want to do with your career, but once you do find what you want to do, get out!!!! You will learn more, get paid more and treated better at other companies.

    Cons

The main problem with Erico in a few words, “dog and pony show.”Middle management is so intensely focused on making is appear that great improvements are being made to Erico’s manufacturing processes that they make no effort to even pretend that’s not exactly what we were doing. On numerous occasions I was told to “put on a show” when upper management came to tour the plant. Upper management is so hopelessly lost when they do tour the plant they we could convince them that painting some lines on the floor and hanging some signs would suddenly increase efficiency and save hundreds of thousands of dollars. The next time they would come, the lines and signs would be gone and we would have a new flimsy sales pitch that they would gobble up. Management does not have the attention span to make any real difference in Ericos manufacturing. It is much easier to just pretend. The other problem with Erico is people leave and they leave often. The company is slow to replaces them and rarely ever hires any with much experience. It’s hard to learn and find a good mentor if you been with the company for just a few years and you are one of the more experienced employees.

    Advice to Management

Nothing, you just can’t fix stupid.
