Pros
Great co-workers.
Amazing perks.
Ability to work independently.
Cons
Long hours at the close of each quarter.
Pros
Brand;
Some work flexible arrangments available:
Some perks like access to gym
Cons
ESPN will pay you low because they know that alot of people are willing to work for ESPN no matter what and ESPN leverages that. Other smaller companies will pay more than ESPN, I know this for a fact. Also, there is alot good old boy network going on when it comes to promotion.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop having entrenched employees and start developing employees that actually care.
Pros
A great place to work with some awesome fringe benefits. Fun and playful working environment. Company values work life balance
Cons
Colleagues are huge sports fans which one would expect and while there are some talented people within the organization, was unimpressed with the level of talent of colleagues.
Advice to Senior Management
Increased salaries would bump up the level of talent within the organization; something that is important as the TV marketplace for sports continues to get more crowded.
Pros
Company doing extremely well, growing rapidly, with lots of opportunity for those who bring valid skillsets to the business. Much comraderie.
Cons
Doing well and having money (deep pockets) also brings a certain lack of focus. Not a strategy driven company. Built from ground up, lots of talented people who have been there many years, and sometimes not enough outside influences to help business grow beyond what they know (well... sports entertainment.)
Advice to Senior Management
Build more depth; dig deep to develop talent.
Pros
company performance as a whole is impressive. Great working environment at the Bristol campus.
Cons
There no clear connection between people credentials and their position.
Advice to Senior Management
Take more risk and be open to change in direction.
Pros
Good opportunities for career growth. Great chance of exposure with the latest and most up to date material and equipment. Friendly, divers and helpful co-worker.
Cons
ESPN location is not the best place to live. It has almost a 6 month winter and there is not much to do besides work.
Pros
Great experience as a college senior looking to enter the sports industry. Helpful staff who were inviting and dedicated to helping me succeed.
Cons
It was an unpaid internship. Although I could have gone to another company and gotten paid, I felt as though having ESPN on my resume was priceless.
Advice to Senior Management
You're doing a great job! Just keep remembering how you were as a student in college and you'll give your interns everything they could ask for!
Pros
ESPN's parent company is under Disney so the benefits are very good.
Cons
Management is lacking in management skills
Favortism is shown when promotions are given
Huge sense of entitlement amongst employees
HR leaves a LOT to be desired; you feel like you have advocates at all
Advice to Senior Management
Stop only tagging those who are "loud" but not necessarily possess leadership qualities as leaders. Be proactive with managing your team and not so interested on how you can advance. Your team shines, you will shine...
Pros
ESPN is a well-known brand around the world, and that's reflected in the corporate culture. Management expects great things from you, as you're representing a huge brand. Compensation is great.
Cons
Due to the nature of the job, long hours are an inevitability for many employees. Media is that kind of animal. As I said, though, compensation is good.
Advice to Senior Management
Not much to say here, really. Management does a pretty good job of recognizing where their touch is needed. I do wish they'd promote from within more often, however.
Pros
The overall environment at ESPN is very casual, very friendly and most of all respectfull. Great place to work for college graduates looking to get a head in the television industry. Also great benefits as well as VERY GOOD PERKS.
Cons
This is a 24 hour environment so be prepared to work the over night shift if you are a new hire.
Advice to Senior Management
Take the time to get to know your staff and the more you offer them the more they will be willing to sacrafice themselves for you.
