    Pros

    Strong contributors are rewarded, and are given the opportunity train and participate across departments. Work life balance, and benefits are good.

    Cons

    In the medium/long term, management teams turn over regularly. This poses a challenge in maintaining cultural consistency. Long term growth is limited by this cycle. Less security for management as tenure increases, but more secure outside of the management team.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Turnover controls cost, but weakens the culture.

    Pros

    Nice people, for the most part. The atmosphere is casual and friendly most of the time. Good work/family life balance. Good benefits, flexible hours. Frequent training opportunities.

    Cons

    A lot of reorganizing without any clear direction or goals. Very reactive in operations. Frequent sudden changes to add and eliminate positions. High turnover rate with a small sector of folks who have been there for more than a few years. No room for advancement. Job descriptions and titles change frequently. Lack of clearly defined processes or procedures. Lack of communication between departments.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Focus on clearly defining what you offer and how you will successfully achieve providing it. Spend more time on being proactive and doing things right the first time. Clearly define the operational processes and procedures and document it.

    Have some quality products. Good people in the support positions of the company.

    Cons

    Quick to reverse course on new initiatives. Lack of leadership at the top. Creating an atmosphere of fear.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Think more long term. Very short sided. Too much turnover in key top positions creates a sense of instability.

    Pros

    The benefits were the only positive experience from working at ETA.

    Cons

    Unstable company that is behind the times. Massive layoffs over the past few years have scarred the company indefinitely. Management at ETA was weak and would never own up to any responsibility. This would be a good company to work for if you don't have much else going for you. Take my advise and consider other jobs first.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep your employees around and develop them. Your reputation throughout the industry is tarnishing. You could use a lesson on Jack Welch's 20-70-10 management rule.

    Pros

    Changes occurred fast, no red tape. Every idea was considered as worth talking about. The employees are very hard workers. Close knit departments, people are committed. Great product.

    Cons

    Strategic planning was lacking. Company was very top heavy. Culture was not the best. Leadership could not develop and stick to a clear plan regarding how to do business within a changing education publishing industry.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Plan for the changes that will be needed in 2-3 and 5 years. Focus on keeping the new, inspired talent and reward risk, change and results.

    Room for growth, company is focused on talent development and growth.
    Culture has changed to be more teaming and less silos.
    Willing to take calculated risks in order to succeed.

    Some areas are still lacking appropriate resources.
    Need to upgrade infrastructure for technology.
    Accountability needs to be established across all departments consistently.

    Pros

    Great leadership team, great brand and product, great work culture. Very hands on, very demanding, and a wide variety of work. Teaches you to deal with stress and prioritize. Love working with my co-workers and have a great boss. Work hours are very flexible and am able to work from home if needed. Offer some in-office education classes.

    Cons

    The economy is a little rough right now so we haven't gotten any raises in the past 2 years, and have had several riffs. Sometimes we have to work long hours to meet deadlines.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Value efficiency/productivity in employees. Develop your employees. I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company.

    Pros

    Company is innovative and growing. Strong sense of "family" with a staff that cooperates and works together. People oriented and dedicated to the education of children and providing quality and timely product into the education market. This is an organization that you feel proud to be affiliated.

    Cons

    Very tough economic environment in the education industry with federal, state and local budget cuts. Company is up to the challenge and continues to add to staff and grow sales.

    Stay the course. Continue to innovate product and curriculum. Continue to recruit the most talented individuals to the company. Jude Rake is a leader with a vision. Company is strong and continues to grow.

    I have been working at ETA hand2mind full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    The people and the management seem to "get it". There is not the huge disconnect that I've seen at other places between managers and their direct reports. Overall we work hard but seem to be appreciated. The passion level for our products and services is high and people seem to know that they are making a difference.

    Cons

    There were no raises given this year due to the economy and its impact on our business. Some people are taking on more workload without the increase in pay yet, but I think at some point that stepping up will be rewarded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Develop strong career path planning with employees to help them identify where they want their career to go inside ETA hand2mind and what additional training/skills they may need to get them there.
