    I worked at ETH Zurich

    Pros

Flexible work hours, interaction with students, you are completely free in composing your lectures as long as the students are prepared for the exam at the end of the semester.

    Cons

Salary is low copared to the invested time. If you are very engaged in your work, the students will contact you with questions throughout the week, but you wont be recompensated for extra time.

I have been working at ETH Zurich full-time

    Pros

Very good environment to work in, up-to-date equipment, plenty of funding for everything necessary. Most groups offer freedom to pursue interests within scope of research direction.

    Cons

Experience depends a great deal on the particular work group, with working times and conditions in most groups flexible, but sometimes more strictly controlled and defined by the professor.

I have been working at ETH Zurich full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great staff, great students, and lots of support and resources available for your work. The pay is competitive and Zurich is a wonderful city to live in.

    Cons

Zurich is very expensive (but the pay is enough to cover it). There is a high standard for work so many people work long hours , but I don't know of labs where people look over your shoulder to enforce this.

I worked at ETH Zurich full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good salary, great infrastructure for research, famous scientists.

    Cons

Very tense competition between colleagues. Lack of leadership of the faculties who do not care about phd student and post-docs. Horrible cafeteria.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create more junior professorships and research position with freedom and resources. Reduce the size of the research groups when they grow only driven by systematic fundraising and not by research quality.
