I have been working at ETH Zurich full-time for more than a year

    Pros

World-class facilites and researchers in science and engineering. Lots of very bright professors, students, postdocs and great networking potential

    Cons

If you are a phd student or postdoc, choose your mentor wisely, as you will have to work with him/her for several years. Make sure you are certain that you will get along in the long run and that you have a great interest in their line of work. Professors have a lot of freedom, which can be great if used responsibly, often leads to exploitatoin of students/postdocs. As typically the case at universities, it is difficult to hold professors accountable since there is so much pressure to accept anything the professor throws at you since he/she knows you want to get a good letter of recommendation from them.

I worked at ETH Zurich full-time for less than a year

    Pros

ETHZurich is a great place to work
    - the locations are generally central and easy to reach
    - the pay is good
    - the resources the university has in terms of funding, connections and equipment are outstanding
    - the reputation of the research is fantastic
    - as an employee you will be employed directly by the Swiss state, so there are great benefits

    Cons

    - research the department and group you will be working with, are they a great personal match?
    - obviously many people are very competitive, make sure its the right climate for you
    - its a huge institute, some processes are slow

I have been working at ETH Zurich full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

There are lots of pros, I will try to summarize them in the following bullets:
    a) Very good working environment
    b) Very good salary as a PhD student in comparison to other unis in other countries
    c) Good funding, hence lots of facilities are present for research
    d) Very good benefits you have like certain discounts from the SBB (Swiss trains company) and internet provider, as well as very large and well equipped sports centers where you can practice lots of sports for very minor price

    Cons

Work and progress is so much Professor dependent, but I guess that is the same everywhere.

I have been working at ETH Zurich full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Stimulating environment, very good facilities, excellent salary for a PhD position. Zurich and Switzerland offer a very high standard of living with good health care and appealing scenery. ETH is a well organized institution with comparably low bureaucratic overhead and good benefits. Research-wise ETH is rated as world class university. Research focus is dedicatedly on Science and Engineering (similar to MIT).

    Cons

Finding a flat in Zurich can be tricky. To integrate in the research groups, English is perfectly fine. Outside the university some German would be a definite advantage. Even though generally ranked one of the top 5 schools, ETH is less well known in the anglo-saxon world than their own universities.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Seem to do a good job attracting good talent and improving the ranking. Keep it up.

I have been working at ETH Zurich full-time for more than a year

    Pros

Good place to be a PhD student. Very competitive compensation, good learning opportunities, flexible work hours.

    Cons

There is nothing bad to say about ETH. Zurich may not be the most exciting city in the world.
Maybe not as well-known internationally outside the academic world as Anglo-Saxon universities (Oxford, Cambridge, MIT, Stanford, Harvard). Even though the research is on the same or higher level, better marketing would result in better career opportunities for researchers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up with the good work.
