I worked at EVRAZ North America full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

I had a great deal of autonomy to run my areas. Setting pricing, contract negotiation, 0 micro managment, great coworkers, excellent knowledgeable directors and great personal relation with C level executives clients.

    Cons

Mill delays which set us back when it came to deadlines. Low quality steel due to human error. A facility that had not been updated since the 1970's. Lack of communication with the mill workers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the great work. It was a pleasure to work for you.

I have been working at EVRAZ North America

    Pros

The company feels like a family and people care about their coworkers. This makes the work enjoyable and brings the best out of everyone. Lots of opportunities to experience any areas you wish due to it's smaller size.

    Cons

This is a smaller company so the promotions can be limited; however, the chance to learn and grow is there so if you want to do more, you can.

    Pros

Good solid company with lots of parks and benefits.

    Cons

Payscales are low. Vary small raises yearly.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Wage increase would help employees feel like there needed more. Which in turn makes a more productive employee for his hard work.

I worked at EVRAZ North America

    Pros

Very laid back culture (Jeans were acceptable daily)
Very rarely had to work longer than 40 hours, offered a great work/life balance

    Cons

Leadership was not very open with their employees and would often send cryptic memos in times of turmoil
Some systems that were used appear convoluted and poorly thought out.

I worked at EVRAZ North America full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

At the beginning benefits were a big draw
    Cheap place to live

    Cons

Very hostile environment from top management and the union population. No chance for upward mobility unless you are well connected or from the area. The front office management will not give you the time of day and if you are in the room with the bargaining group expect to be ignored as they fall over themselves to shake the hand of a union member.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The work-life balance is out of whack. Expect to work long hours with no appreciation from the management group. The push for production exceeds any other objective the company might seem to promote.

I worked at EVRAZ North America full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

For non-union work, the benefits and wages were great for entry level - 14.75 to start, 15.49 after 90 days. Unlimited overtime for those that wanted it; easy work and the BEST supervisors I have ever had. They truly cared and protected you. Lots of free meals and paid lunches.

    Cons

The Spiral mill receives a single contract at a time. Runs for a few years then closes until another contract comes along. It was open in 2009 and 2013.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find enough contracts to employ people in the spiral mill without massive layoffs. Have the integrity not to hire temps.

I have been working at EVRAZ North America full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Evraz North America has many dedicated, goal driven employees. The people are friendly and aren't reluctant to take on new challenges and projects to improve the companies bottom line. The pay and benefits are excellent. The fact that there are many people who have worked here for 30-40 years speaks volumes for what Evraz NA offers as an employer.

For those who demonstrate potential and ability to execute, their are opportunities for promotions and raises. Many are eligible for quarterly bonuses that are a significant portion of total compensation.

The company emphasizes work-life balance. There are many fringe benefits such as free gym, discounts to resorts, hotels and theme parks ... even a private lake where only employees may fish.

    Cons

As a company that has grown through acquisition of existing steel companies, Evraz has struggled with standardizing on systems and procedures. It is difficult to get all locations to give up their home grown systems or agree on Corporate standards for ERP, MES, CRM, etc. A few in local management still don't see Information Technology as a differentiator in the market place. As a result, not enough emphasis is placed on IT in the budgeting process, but there are indications that the wind is changing in the right direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are plenty of opportunities for improving efficiencies through greater reliance on modern technologies. There should be a corporate initiative to implement a standard ERP, an MES tailored to steel manufacturing adopted by all steel mills, standard data historian in each mill with real-time SPC, and tighter integration between ERP and legacy systems.

I worked at EVRAZ North America full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

There are no real pros to speak of for this company. They are in financial trouble and closing plants around the world to try and stay afloat.

    Cons

The company is in financial trouble. They are closing and selling plants around the world.
They are very unstable and ready to close a plant on a whim.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the people that actually work in the Steel Industry and let them run the Mill.
You can't fit 10lbs of you know what into a 5lbs bag with out it breaking.

I worked at EVRAZ North America full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Great location, You can pay for transporation costs pre-tax, Initially there wasn't an employee cost share for benefits. There weren't a lot of defined processes in the beginning so there were opportnities to develop processes and make an impact.

    Cons

No work life balance, high stress, a high volume of last minute high priority projects that come out of nowhere. LONG HOURS. Lack of support from management. Employees are resources that are used up and tossed aside. Environment is toxic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow your values -- listen to your employees -- the company is experiencing high turnover because it is not a great place to work. Invest time in finding out why rather than investing time in convincing employees that they are wrong. Plan your work.
