    Pros

For non-union work, the benefits and wages were great for entry level - 14.75 to start, 15.49 after 90 days. Unlimited overtime for those that wanted it; easy work and the BEST supervisors I have ever had. They truly cared and protected you. Lots of free meals and paid lunches.

    Cons

The Spiral mill receives a single contract at a time. Runs for a few years then closes until another contract comes along. It was open in 2009 and 2013.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Find enough contracts to employ people in the spiral mill without massive layoffs. Have the integrity not to hire temps.

I have been working at EVRAZ North America full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Evraz North America has many dedicated, goal driven employees. The people are friendly and aren't reluctant to take on new challenges and projects to improve the companies bottom line. The pay and benefits are excellent. The fact that there are many people who have worked here for 30-40 years speaks volumes for what Evraz NA offers as an employer.

For those who demonstrate potential and ability to execute, their are opportunities for promotions and raises. Many are eligible for quarterly bonuses that are a significant portion of total compensation.

The company emphasizes work-life balance. There are many fringe benefits such as free gym, discounts to resorts, hotels and theme parks ... even a private lake where only employees may fish.

    Cons

As a company that has grown through acquisition of existing steel companies, Evraz has struggled with standardizing on systems and procedures. It is difficult to get all locations to give up their home grown systems or agree on Corporate standards for ERP, MES, CRM, etc. A few in local management still don't see Information Technology as a differentiator in the market place. As a result, not enough emphasis is placed on IT in the budgeting process, but there are indications that the wind is changing in the right direction.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There are plenty of opportunities for improving efficiencies through greater reliance on modern technologies. There should be a corporate initiative to implement a standard ERP, an MES tailored to steel manufacturing adopted by all steel mills, standard data historian in each mill with real-time SPC, and tighter integration between ERP and legacy systems.

    Pros

There are no real pros to speak of for this company. They are in financial trouble and closing plants around the world to try and stay afloat.

    Cons

The company is in financial trouble. They are closing and selling plants around the world.
They are very unstable and ready to close a plant on a whim.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Listen to the people that actually work in the Steel Industry and let them run the Mill.
You can't fit 10lbs of you know what into a 5lbs bag with out it breaking.

    Pros

Great location, You can pay for transporation costs pre-tax, Initially there wasn't an employee cost share for benefits. There weren't a lot of defined processes in the beginning so there were opportnities to develop processes and make an impact.

    Cons

No work life balance, high stress, a high volume of last minute high priority projects that come out of nowhere. LONG HOURS. Lack of support from management. Employees are resources that are used up and tossed aside. Environment is toxic.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Follow your values -- listen to your employees -- the company is experiencing high turnover because it is not a great place to work. Invest time in finding out why rather than investing time in convincing employees that they are wrong. Plan your work.

I have been working at EVRAZ North America full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

My company recruiter gave me fantastic feedback after each step in the interview process which I believe directly helped me get the position. Compensation and relocation package was well executed, professional, and fair. Benfits system has been reasonable and fairly easy to manage.

    Cons

While not negative in my opinion, the onboarding can be a challenge if you are not used to asking questions and seeking out information that you don't have. The Pueblo IT support guys are fantastic but have a lot of work to do so be patient as your systems can take time to get running. There are some challenges within operations mangement to use vacation time and have your workload be covered.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Streamline onboarding so that new employees know what to expect and when to expect it. The company values are well advertized but employees on the floor appear to question the sincerity of managment's commitment, examine how success of those values is recognized, the peer nomination process may not be producing as much recognition at the floor level as is needed. Continue efforts to build training for front line leadership.

I worked at EVRAZ North America full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good pay along with good benefits. A lot of opportunity to grow within the company. Colleagues made it worth showing up for work on a daily basis.

    Cons

High rate or turnover in senior management positions so makes the vision of the leadership group tough to follow. Very short sided goals instead of setting up for more long term sustainability

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Continue to invest in youth.

I have been working at EVRAZ North America full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Lots of room for growth
    Competitive salary & benefits
Lots of great people work for the company and they tend to enjoy helping out young professionals
Older working population, meaning plenty of knowledge in the teams you will work on
Travel opportunities among plants in USA and Canada
Training opportunities to improve your skill set

    Cons

Requires self-starting, guidance can be lacking
Expect to move alot if you want to progress
Some weeks can be long (60 hours)
Last minute decisions, you often will find out travel/business plans only a week or two in advance

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make your decisions further ahead of deadlines to be less stressful for your employees
Have better planned out projects/work for new hires
Keep encouraging travel to other plants, it is very helpful in understanding the industry
Mentor programs need to be more fleshed out, this should not be the sole responsibility of the employee

In general, provide more direct guidance and feedback to your new hires. Try to move away from the throw them in the deep end strategy.

    Pros

Great, friendly people and great company values! People are willing to assess current processes and improve them. There has been talk and willingness to investing in systems as well.

    Cons

The company is still developing an HR focused company culture vs. a just get the job done culture. Overall it seems the company is still setting up processes and standardizing across the organization. The technology needs to be updated and they are in the process of doing it. There is no management or leadership training for the front line managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Your people are your most important assets!! Continual communications and appreciation of them is so important and motivating. Senior Management says how important leadership and management is but there is little action behind it. I recommend annual management and leadership training for everyone because it is so important to a company's success.

I have been working at EVRAZ North America full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

EVRAZ has a great benfits package. Their salaray's are competitive. The environment is very team focused. Working for EVRAZ you are treated like a person not a number. The people are great. Depending on your responsibilites your hours can be flexible. A lot of changes are rippling throughe company, all of them for good. Some retirments in the next few years are going to create lots of oppertunities for advancement and latteral movement within the company. EVRAZ is a great company to work for and I would recomend you consider them first when looking for a new job

    Cons

Like any manufacturing environment there are sales versus production, production versus QA discussions. Although, not in my case, I have seen evidence that the hiring process can be slow.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the changes! A lot of the positive momentum can be felt, now's not the time to back off.
