    Pros

I worked with some of the best people in the industry.

    Cons

They moved our office to Dallas to consolidate.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Houston is the best place to be if you are in the O&G business. Houston offers a much better spectrum of knowledgeable and potential quality employees.

I have been working at EXCO Resources full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

People are nice but nosey. The work is not that stressful and hours are good.

    Cons

To much management and not enough workers. The company has no CEO and the company is going through a split right now. Needs younger management with up to date ideas and changes. Some employees are just to settled and waiting to retire.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Include employees as to what's going on.

I worked at EXCO Resources full-time

    Pros

    Attractive compensation package for managers

    Cons

Bad strategic direction at the top left the company cash poor. Badly structured joint venture deals, with no coherent mechanism for partner differences, caused the the company to be unable to operate effectively.

The bad managers at EXCO greatly outnumbered the competent ones and it became impossible to impossible to make a positive difference anymore. Although I quit in disgust with no job offer in hand to replace my income, it was the only way to retain any pride in my career. Other than downsizing to cut costs, I don't see any positive developments since I left.
Look at the stock performance over the past several years and you will see everything you need to know.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Sell your assets. Distribute anything left over to shareholders after paying the debts. You ran this company into the ground. I'm sorry for the lower ranked employees if they have talent.

Would have been much better with a higher quality mid-level management group.

I worked at EXCO Resources full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Doug Miller does seem to genuinely want his employees to have a great career experience. Benefits were good. Workload was consistent.

    Cons

It grew too fast and many management and supervisor positions filled with less qualified people. The VP of Land allowed managers to get away with a lot of bad acting. Then in 2012 it shrunk too fast and so many good people had to leave - whether through the layoff or because they didn't trust EXCO to keep the doors open. The fact that no effort was made to keep good people was telling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Actually work on cultivating good employees instead of rewarding 'warm bodies'.

    Pros

EXCO is a very active exploration/ exploitation company with pleanty of funding to support their activity.

    Cons

EXCO middle management is extremely weak. I often felt that I work on a desert island.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

EXCO executive management would be served well by creating a communication system that would allow field level/lower management people to be heard. Your middle/upper management often display fear and refuse to convey information that is beneficial to your company up the ladder because it does not mirror you edicts.

I have been working at EXCO Resources full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great staff, friendly, family like which is rare for a mid-size company. Amazing benefits especially the 401K retirement. EXCO doesn't like to fire anyone but instead moves less than effective employees around to try and find a place for them.

    Cons

Part of the Pro - some less than effective employees sometimes need to be let go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Talk to your people a little more. We're in this with you, good and bad times.

    Pros

Most people are helpful and willing to teach and instruct.
    Yearly bonus and incentive bonus

    Cons

Attitudes of some are horrible, feel they are being picked on and carry that onto others

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to keep all of the staff more in the loop of the security of their positions and of the company as a whole. Too secretive, which makes everyone on edge.
