The worst company I have ever worked at. Or maybe just the engagements I was on? I have never been treated so badly

    Pros

Great benefits - healthcare, family leave, etc. Lots of autonomy to drive projects and results, interact with clients, etc. Lots of leadership opportunities both on projects and through special interest groups. Great urban locations, although you will be traveling to client sites regularly.

    Cons

Work/life balance is sometimes challenged, compensation is slightly below market rates. Office culture is friendly, motivating and professional

    Pros

    Good brand name
Rotational opportunities in other service lines
    Broad experience
    Significant project pipeline
A good place to transfer after developing expertise at Deloitte, KPMG and other competitors

    Cons

No effective training, even on the job learning is slow as most projects are not interesting (project management support related and not analytical)
Local leadership is not in touch with the staff -- they have accounting background and not consulting
Promotions based on kissing-up, rather than merit
Not a good place to start a career, despite all of the advertisements; new MBAs will be very disappointed

    Advice to Management

    Provide more employee development
Replace local leadership - they have no vision or ability to communicate with staff

    Pros

EY offers you a variety of great work opportunities specially in the tax department. When you start right off college, you get put in a diversified group which means you get to work with a variety of teams and different projects so you gain a base of tax knowledge on various things such as partnership, corporation, qualitative services, international, state and local tax. After three years, you specialize in a group but you already have a bit of knowledge on various tax areas. You work mostly with young professionals that are willing to coach you. I've had really good experiences with people and projects.

    Cons

The more you advance the more demanding it gets, meaning you have to work more and more hours. Since public accounting is driven on chargeable hours, your utilization becomes the center of your life so you have to constantly be charging hours to make the goal for the year. Your promotion and bonus is dependent on that.
