    Poor leadership, dismal work culture

    Consultant (Former Employee)
    Mumbai (India)

ProsTrying hard to say something positive but there is none. The highest management is also completely blind to your concerns, even if you raise ethical ones. Poor standard.

ConsZero work life balance. Performance appraisal has nothing to do with your past performance, but everything to do with the leadership's perception on your likelihood of staying in the company. Threats will be made if you think of escalating a concern. Career opportunities are zilch, unless you become a part of the unethical mess. Leadership is very weak on ethics, especially in sustainability services. HR will not support you in any way and employee grievance system is actually inexistent.

Advice to Senior ManagementNote this is a review based on experiences in one geography (India) and one team only. The fact that the senior management did nothing to manage a situation reflects on the larger culture as well.

    HORRIBLE!

    Executive Assistant (Former Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsThere is nothing positive about working at this place. It is horrible!! And they treat their employees like crap.

ConsEverything. Benefits are bad. Pay is bad. Hours are too long. Management is bad. The culture is bad. I never knew how wonderful a job could be until I left E&Y.

Advice to Senior ManagementQuit treating your assistants like garbage. Do more for your employees.

Things that look great outside arent really great inside

    Senior Consultant (Former Employee)

ProsMay be just the brand name and nothing much of a benefit other than working for this firm

ConsYou will not be deployed on projects you were hired for
You will not develop any expertise in any specific space
The whole advisory is a joke and I dont see this going anywhere
They care less about the people, infact they hardly care about people
Staffing is the wierdest and funniest process of all
I would strongly suggest for college grads who are looking to start their career in consulting please stay away from EY advisory
Oh wait, compensation and salary raise is 1/100000th of what other comparative firms offer

Advice to Senior ManagementPeople are your asset and treasure them. Hire based on your need and treat everyone with professionalism and respect. Very very poor leadership skills from top to bottom.

    Dissatisfaction at its best....

    Senior Consultant (Current Employee)
    Gurgaon, Haryana (India)

ProsYou will start appreciating the smaller things in life like watching tv, chatting with friends, sleeping peace, coz you would not have them anymore.

ConsPoor work life balance. 24 X 7 conflict management. Keeping clients, seniors junior happy with notional work. If you try to vent out your concerns, it will be held against you as capability issues in next appraisal cycle. Highly manipulative place. Working with honesty is not enough. The more you work, the more work you get. To survive you need to learn the art of swindling.

Advice to Senior ManagementInvest in people management

If you enjoy passive aggressive, this place is for you.

    Senior (Former Employee)
    Chicago, IL

ProsGreat opportunities are available if the right people have your back and if you are willing to give up your life to work for them.
Big 4 on your resume increases career opportunities.

    ConsVery passive-aggressive environment.
Terrible communication from senior managers and partners.
Reviews are based on the opinion of one or two senior managers & partners rather than your documented reviews.
Ratings are pushed down to save money on raises.
Terrible work hours, no work-life balance.
Your success is very dependent on you knowing the right people.
They reward people who complain constantly rather than hard work.
Employees are treated as if they are disposable.
Many superiors would rather do the work themselves than teach, and then turn around and give poor reviews.
You are rated against peers across the US, when opportunities are not the same. Different areas have different clients, different offices rate differently, etc.
Competition across employees is encouraged, and the teamwork aspect of audit teams is not emphasized or encouraged.

Advice to Senior ManagementTreating employees with a little respect and consideration would go a long way. Encouraging teams to work together and rely on each other rather than fostering competition within them would help audits be more efficient.

    Awful experience

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Dublin, Dublin (Ireland)

ProsThe office location was central. Management was usually absent long enough to enable actual work be done (when there was any).

ConsNepotism runs rife in EY and woe betide anyone who dares challenge it. As a result management have a cutthroat style. Most audit staff I met (I was in IT) basically planned to stay for the experience and bail once that was up.

Advice to Senior ManagementI feel sorry for genuine people in as sick an institution as this.
