    Pros

The best aspect of working for the regional park district was having constant access to the outdoors (as part of the job requirement), although I know more administrative interns were inside most of the time. The staff are generally passionate about promoting and protecting the parks, and increasing access to the outdoors.

    Cons

The internship often entailed spending lots of time working alone, with limited direction. This could be seen as a positive—quite a bit of freedom.

    Pros

Fairly flexible scheduling, great people to work with, and, this being a Parks District, beautiful locations in which to work.

    Cons

They have 60+ parks in a number of counties. Getting into a specific park that is fairly close to one's home is supremely challenging.

    Advice to Management

    None at the present time.

    Pros

A noteworthy organization with a long history of preserving and maintain open space and natural resources.

    Cons

No more than any other similar organization. Limited career opportunities in some positions.

    Advice to Management

Look at the career ladders of other public organizations and notice the various steps. Consider staff retention as a principle goal.

    Pros

Nice people, good wages, funded by taxes so they give regular cost of living adjustments.

    Cons

There is sometimes a political aspect to things.

    Pros

The lifeguard pay is one of the highest paying high school wage and includes yearly COLA. Unionized and Organized, EBRPD pays meticulous attention to detail when it comes to employee paid trainings and patron satisfaction in its public parks.

    Cons

The juvenile politics of the conflicted aquatics management are unnecessary and tarnish EBRPD's image as a whole. Hypocrisy and favoritism run rampant, particularly in the south where physical appearance is deemed an indicator of competence (namely that bulk = skill). Opportunity for advancement is based on ambiguous or non-adhered to factors.

    Advice to Management

Get rid of aquatics management. Get a better pulse on your seasonal employees, it'll avoid the unpleasant situations you run into on a yearly basis with respect to... well... college party-related activities. Do exit interviews so you can learn from where to improve (you already do entry + interviews).
