I have been working at East Carolina University part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Every semester gets something new out of me. Great to hold a job while still studying . Professors are understanding and very supportive ( for the professors I worked with)

    Cons

Sometimes handling both job and school work becomes challenging that it exceeds my hours and I don't get paid for it..

  2.

I worked at East Carolina University full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Like most state jobs, the benefits are excellent. Generally, the people are friendly and work hard. It isn't hard to do well if you work hard.

    Cons

The University tolerates mediocrity. It is hard to try new things and introduce new technologies. Most of the work is not challenging. They don't generally care about family responsibilities either.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Compensation is good, but there is a general mistrust of people from outside of Greenville. There should be more in the area to draw people from different places with different ideals in.

Not much training (though most of the work is common sense)
    Constantly moving
    Weather

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure to pay attention to sanitation; saw quite a few things that scared me.

I worked at East Carolina University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Good pay, flexible hours, no take home work, opportunities to work with both students and higher level personnel. Interview process was short and to the point.

    Cons

Little interaction between co workers outside of work, very cliquey, not the most exciting job in the world. Pay could be increased, but still competitive.

I worked at East Carolina University full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Stability. Career branding created some mobility.

    Cons

SPA employees have stability, but are unable to get raises based on merit. Laziness gets rewarded as often as hard work, so can become demoralizing after a while. SPA employees forced into pension with no match.

    Pros

Interesting working with students, course designs are a plus, great school spirit, really nice weather, pay is okay.

    Cons

Parking is a pain, students are always on the phone, pretty much the usual with any university nowadays, not too many negatives.

A university that provides good opportunities for employment

    • Comp & Benefits
    • Work/Life Balance
    • Senior Management
    • Culture & Values
    • Career Opportunities
Current Employee - Graduate Assistant in Greenville, NC
Current Employee - Graduate Assistant in Greenville, NC

I have been working at East Carolina University part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Job provides some flexibility in scheduling to accommodate student's schedules. Decent experience and average pay for the position and responsibilities.

    Cons

The university administrator system is bloated and clumsy. Too many politics. Not enough funding where it counts. The quality of people in management varies but that is typical for any job. The administration moves slowly so it can be difficult to plan ahead at the beginning of each semester.
