I have been working at East West Bancorp full-time

    Pros

I have been working here for 3.5 years and it is a great culture-based bank. Exceptional service is the goal that we are working to achieve. I like that the Bank pays great attention to the customer experience. Since we are located in the heart of Pasadena, we are surrounded by great food and entertainment, which means there is always something good to eat for lunch! The bank gives employees a broad array of responsibilities so each individual can develop their skills and grow as a person. The benefits are great as well; very competitive low month to month premiums. Also, East West Bank is one of the few banks headquartered in CA while still having an international presence. East West Bank is going places!

    Cons

    1. As the Bank continues to grow, changes are constantly occurring to keep up with growing needs. 2. Conservative business procedures that are in the process of change and development to meet competitive industry fluctuations.

    Advice to Management

    1. Streamline process and procedures to avoid confusion and miscommunication across different business channels. 2. As the Bank grows, more resources, tools, and manpower are needed to meet growing needs. 3. Focus on understanding and developing current staff to create a culture of career development and job satisfaction.

I have been working at East West Bancorp full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

In-Stores have later hours, opens at 10am, closes at 7pm, definitely beats rush hour traffic. Easier to move up if you're buddy buddy with someone higher up.

    Cons

Really bad incentive bonuses that are paid out only once a year in December, and only if your branch exceeds high sales goals during the year.

    Advice to Management

Have better incentive programs for retail banking, at least quarterly payouts.

I have been working at East West Bancorp full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

For the most part, a lot of people that work here is nice.

    Cons

The biggest problem here is politics and it starts with upper management. There are a lot of nice people in the bank, but upper management doesn't care about its people if you're not in the department generating sales. They will not hesitate to lay off someone or an entire department. Unlike other banks, its systems, procedures and policies are not really established. It's constantly changing. Training is not on par with other banks.

    Advice to Management

Upper management needs to realize that its people (not just the sales unit) are its biggest and most important assets. Please listen to the people that actually do the job at their levels and don't make knee jerk decisions without fully researching the entire situation. People are always fearful that they have no job security and this makes for poor morale. Invest more in training and borrow some practices from other banks that has made them successful.
