I have been working at East West Bancorp

    Pros

The job is not too difficult. Work load is not over whelming and can be accomplished easily as long as you have a drive to suceed

    Cons

Advancement opportunities are very limited in the Atlanta area. In Pasadena they might have more of a chance of growth but in Atlanta you work where you were hired.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I think Management is more concerned about making a profit rather then retaining quality employees. Management seems more focused on short term growth rather than focusing on the larger picture.

    Pros

There're some very nice and easy going people

    Cons

UPPER management is very cheap in terms of giving rewards to hard working employees. They cannot retain good/talented employees

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The upper management does not realize that the bank has doubled its size but all they do is keep pushing people work harder but they do not return reasonable rewards. They actually hired many talent people from bigger and more prestigious firms, but they just cannot retain talent people with their managing styles. Many people in my department left within 1 year of employments. They really need to think of ways to retain people instead of only knowing how to push people. People do have options to work somewhere else.

    Pros

Great People, smaller bank, not too many hoops to jump through. you are lucky enough to Rub elbows with the big guys

    Cons

There aren't really any downsides. I think like all companies the more paid time you have would be great. So more paid time off would be nice. Only 2 weeks a year.

Departments are disjointed. Bank trying to be something they are not. Trying to Grow too fast, and make fast moves. Do not communicate changes well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

know the bank's culture, and work within it. Do not treat people as a doormat.

I worked at East West Bancorp

    Pros

There are some very talented and skilled employees. Bank very clearly sets goals and achieves those. Numbers dictate success - meet your numbers, be rewarded. Many long-term employees very loyal and have benefitted from previous years of stock rewards.

    Cons

CEO has a talented leadership team but prefers pitting one group against another. This leads to siloing of the oprganization and lack of cross divisional cooperation. Benefits are just okay and salaries for all but the top ranks are not very competitive. Motivation from several managers is done with fear not rewards.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Numbers are vital in banking but don't forget that the work is done by people not numbers.

    Pros

You may be able to learn a lot of you make an effort to do so. There is a lot of different things to do and not very many qualified persons.

    Cons

In the long term, unless you have very strong connections with the company, the advancement is extremely limited at best.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The attrition of UCB employees is only one testament of how welcoming EWBC feels for ANY employee. Typical Asian ways of managing people in a ethnically diverse environment is proven to be unsuccessful. This mentality is preventing EWBC from attracting and/or retaining top talent, which in the end leads to mediocre performance of the entire company.

I have been working at East West Bancorp

    Pros

health benefits were above industry average. The dept. was cooperative in letting employees off
for personal or family reasons. The management was good but it was only because they
came from previous ownership of bank

    Cons

pay was lower than industry average.
seems they promoted non-exempt people to exempt in order to avoid paying overtime
Upper management never communicated information to middle management and employees
Should first of all learn to speak English. Their communication in English is terrible. Most of the folks are Asian and could benefit from taking English for Speakers of Other Languages.
