    Great work experience for students

Graduate Assistant (Former Employee) Charleston, IL

Prosreasonable salary PLUS tuition reimbursement. Everyone I talked to about this job was satisfied (or better) with the job, duties, and etc.

One of the few schools worldwide that offers masters level graduate assistance-ships.

Conscan not pick up any other work while holding this job - you need to focus on your studies and the work they are providing - you probably wont need to>

Advice to Senior ManagementKeep it going - good job

An enjoyable and rewarding atmosphere to work in.

Network Specialist II (Former Employee) Charleston, IL

ProsIts a constantly changing and rewarding experience to help the faculty, staff, and students out with their Computer/IT challenges and daily problems and leave them with a smile and problem solved.

ConsThere really is not much in the form of a con that I can say about EIU, other than its a state university and your wagea may or may not be what you might make in a corporate atmosphere, but EIU offsets that with a free college education as long as your with them.

Advice to Senior ManagementThe biggest thing i can say to the department directors is to remember to run the dept. like a educational faculty not like a private corporation as that does not work in the educational atmosphere.

    Great experience and wonderful supervisor/coworkers

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee) Charleston, IL

ProsLaid back environment, able to balance personal life and work life. Very understanding about personal issues if they every occurred and very compassionate to employees.

ConsThe actual town of Charleston is just dull and mundane. Some of the staff in other departments do not like to adapt to change and are very stuck in their ways. Also racial tension was very evident at times.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsider trying new methods to branch out to the students as well as communicating with existing workers. Change is inevitable and should be accepted not consistently rejected

Library Assistant (Former Employee) Charleston, IL

ProsFlexible work schedules. Library is open for most of the day, so hours are always available. Staff are all friendly and helpful.

ConsWorking in a library means that you must remain quiet. On slow days they will send you out to dust bookcases.

State university, used to stable. Now not so much

    Facilities (Current Employee) Charleston, IL

ProsLargest best paying employer in the county.

ConsMind numbing bureaucracy. After the buildings and equipment are learned kind of repetitive.
    Personal initiative discouraged.

Advice to Senior ManagementAs time moves on you seem to lack any ability to recognize that the educational environment is changing.
Unless currently relevant curriculum is added to the catalog this institution will cease to exist.
Recruitment of new students has been another area that has fallen by the wayside. Too much time passed with the old director remaining in place.
