I worked at Eastern Illinois University as a contractor for less than a year
Pros – Excellent staff and good support services. There are people that truly care about students and want to see them succeed
Cons – Slow moving and bureaucratic. Like many other schools the students are more focused on getting by than having vision for their futures.
Advice to Senior Management – Innovate and let natural leaders lead regardless of their academic background.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

I worked at Eastern Illinois University as a contractor for less than a year
Pros – The graduate assistant position covered tuition for a Masters program. Additionally, it paid a modest stipend to cover living expenses. In other words, this position gave me a free Masters degree-it's hard to say that's a bad thing! Also, this allowed the student to work closely with a faculty member, allowing him or her to seek mentorship.
Cons – The stipend was a bit too modest, but then again the non-cash benefits more than made up for the modesty in stipend. The hours were great-only twenty per week, which allowed more than enough time to focus on school work and assistantship work.

I worked at Eastern Illinois University part-time for more than 3 years
Pros – Great benefits, excellent people, down to earth attitude with minimal B.S.
Cons – The campus is located in a less-populated area making creature comforts like shopping malls a bit of a drive. If you can survive without those malls, you can surly rough it here.
Advice to Senior Management – Have benefits to Student Workers. They make up a great deal of your work force and the only thing they get out of it is minimum wage at-best.

I worked at Eastern Illinois University
Pros – EIU is a nice, close community to work. The people are very warm and friendly and always eager to assist one another.
Cons – The school is set out in a small town and at times there is not a lot to do after work and not a lot of places to visit. But still close enough to a decent sized city like Champaign, Illinois for whatever activity may interest you.
Advice to Senior Management – I loved my time at EIU, but would encourage management to get more aggressive with their alumni or whatever would put EIU on the map. They should actively encourage or promote partnership with certain fortune 500 companies to draw attention to the school, increase hiring of students from EIU. Several EIU alumni are on boards of fortune 500 companies. EIU has to reach out to them.

I worked at Eastern Illinois University
Pros – EIU has a lot of different employment opportunities. This one is a hidden gem. Available to student with nice hours(20 max as all university jobs), and has nothing to do with food.
Cons – You take a small aptitude test to get hired; fixing simple computer issues, simple application knowledge on office and Dreamweaver, and computer hardware. So those with no technical knowledge it might be difficult. It can also be a little boring.

I have been working at Eastern Illinois University
Pros – Each department have their own work environment. The geography/geology department is very friendly, open, and pleasing. The people work well together, very social, and helpful to others (inside and outside the department).
Cons – I have worked in other departments (the food court) and are not very fair to student workers. They tend to look down onto the students and only allow them to work short and small amount of hours. The benefits that you receive as a student worker is just a hourly pay and the low level of student insurance. Not very much fun, friendliness, and not enjoyable.

I worked at Eastern Illinois University
Pros – Eastern is a beautiful campus with tons of resources for its students. The workplace environment is quite relaxed and the diversity makes it a great place to grow.
Cons – Eastern Illinois University is located in a very small rural town, so that is one thing to consider. Additionally, while the work environment may be nice it's not so great for your personal life.
Advice to Senior Management – I think the environment at Eastern illinois University is fantastic. The University does a great job with its international students.

I have been working at Eastern Illinois University
Pros – Only required to work 18 hours a week, but often worked much fewer
Faculty had planned out work for GA and were quite flexible and accommodating to work for
Even with 4 classes each semester I was not overwhelmed
Tuition waiver was good
Stipend on top was nice too
Cons – Some research and grunt work for faculty is boring and repetitive
Does not help much in giving you work experience that you can take into the business world
Advice to Senior Management – Try to find ways to get GA's to do external internships as it will be more fulfilling to future careers

I have been working at Eastern Illinois University
Pros – Ability to work in related areas and topics outside of specialty. Small enough that you know most of the key people that are relevant to completing your job efficiently. Wonderful benefits
Cons – Lack of professional advancement opportunities or a designed system of advancement. Great salaries for the area but not competitive on a national scale for salaries.
Advice to Senior Management – Continue to invest in the skills and knowledge of your human capital as they are the ones who will keep the university relevant to future students
