I have been working at Eastern New Mexico University full-time

    Pros

Flexibility of people, overall sentiment is very kind, have changing tasks and obvious lows and highs of the year allowing you to plan ahead. Good benefits and retirement choices. The work is relatively easy to accomplish. Good and responsive leadership.

    Cons

Schools in general are slow to get anything through, which can cause frustration and end up you waiting to do your job even if well planned on your portion. Some areas have high turnover in which processes and procedures get lost along the way.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When knowing a key position is coming available (due to retirement, etc.) try to have a interim who has had some training. A lot of times people walk right into the position and have to learn along the way with no guidance. The learning curve can be brutal. Sometimes we do this, but we could do it more often.

    Pros

There are jobs to be had for those who look hard enough.

    Cons

The available jobs have a tendency to be difficult or include very difficult people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The students are generally happier to work for people who treat them with respect.

I have been working at Eastern New Mexico University

    Pros

It is an easy and slow pattern work place. Salary is okay compares to other jobs in NM. A good place to start with.

    Cons

The location of the university is disappointed. Portales, NM is considered middle of no where. No movie theater, no shopping mall. Many dairy factories make the entire town smells really bad.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The management group is doing well on employees. However, the students performance is getting worse every year. Administration might need to focus more on that.

  6.
