    Pros

    Good place to work, flexibility

    Cons

Apart from stagnant pay, it is a top-heavy organization. There are frustrations because of a limited budget.

I worked at Eastern University full-time

    Pros

Eastern is a wonderful community with a great mission. There is a strong commitment to employees especially around job security and benefits.

    Cons

The strong commitment to employees means that they do not always hire when needed because they are thinking longer term and not wanting to lay off when not needed.

    Pros

Generous benefits and vacation time along with many paid days off.

    Cons

Low salaries and wages, not enough investment in the resources needed to get the job done well.

    Advice to Management

Invest more in capital and human resources to serve the students well. Eliminate junk majors for majors leading to better paying careers.

    Pros

Snow days are helpful/bonus. Administration does tend to work around family issues, which can be wonderful and much appreciated.

    Cons

Low morale throughout the whole campus. Administration does not care about its staff or recognize its contributions. No annual raise for 3 years in a row. No communication between departments....and at times, there is no cooperation between the departments.

    Advice to Management

The administration needs to make sure the staff gets a decent and fair raise every year. Stop going abroad to recruit students....it would be more cost-effective and make more sense in these difficult times to recruit from somewhere closer ....like maybe the Bible Belt!....then you could put all of that money that you saved towards annual raises for staff members.

    Pros

Slow paced and no one really cares how much you actually produce. A real easy job for those that have no incentive or desire to work. Come here. You'll fit right in.

    Cons

Management - aka Board of Trustees are old and severely out of touch with reality. These folks know not a thing about running a business. Can't raise funds by begging and don't have a clue of how to raise working capital through the capital markets. The boots on the ground.... Vice-Presidents are also out of touch and really just fulfill their immediate roles without having any knowledge whatsoever about managing the Univesity on a daily basis.

    Advice to Management

Wake up! You travel around the world to fight oppression yet oppression lives within your own confines and you do nothing about it. No raises for 4 years and then a small cost of living adjustment - (mine was under .25 cents an hour) and then no raises again is OUT OF TOUCH.

    Neutral Outlook

I have been working at Eastern University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Eastern University is a place where you can speak openly about your faith. EU offers tuition remission if you want to further your education (at least within EU, some things have changed so that they don't offer much outside of EU).

    Cons

Very low pay and very high expectations, with more and more demands being handed to us by upper management. Despite all of the additional responsibilities that are added each year (sometimes each semester), there is no additional compensation (pay) and no efforts to hire more staff to assist with the burden. Burn out runs high.

    Advice to Management

The work-life balance at EU is terrible. There is little regard for the mental health of employees, which is really a dangerous practice. Employees are burning out at a faster rate than ever. As more responsibilities are added, and some of them large and classified as "other duties as assigned," you must find a way to compensate people. Many employees are doing the jobs of 2-3 people, but it is not reflected in their job descriptions and they never receive raises. Even if there isn't extra money, please find a way to take care of your people (extra time off, work from home days, etc.)

I have been working at Eastern University full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Eastern offers tuition remission so you can get your degree for free and the students are the reason for staying at eastern. The vacation, and other paid time off is also substantially more then other places

    Cons

Zero Communication between departments Raises and employee appreciation is nonexistent. Christmas bonus is a ham or turkey... Required to do your job and beyond without additional gratitude or compensation. Annual performance review you are asked and encouraged to give 150% but... Raises... What are those its been years now

    Advice to Management

Show your employees appreciation through small things such as movie tickets and larger things like annual raises.

I have been working at Eastern University full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-I have great colleagues and peers, we work well together -Office culture is generally friendly -time-off policies are generally bare-minimum, but they'll work with you if there is a serious issue that comes up -After working there for a year, you may qualify for Tuition Remission benefits allowing you to study for free at the University. Your family members can also qualify for Tuition Exchange at certain schools after a year as well.

    Cons

-Very pitiful salaries (unless you're already at the top, in which case your salary is probably still below market level, but a whole lot more than others at the institution) -You'll be expected to do more than what your job description suggests and for no additional compensation -Slow at hiring replacement employees once others have left, leaving more work for those who are still there -There is little upward mobility. It's a rare thing.

    Advice to Management

-Recognize the hard work being done by employees and reward them. They do not live on love for Eastern alone. Bills need to be paid. And employees should be making enough to be able to save and invest in their retirement--not just paycheck to paycheck, which is the story of a lot of employees. It gets difficult to keep a positive image of Eastern when one's hard work is not being rewarded with a decent salary.
