I have been working at Eastman Chemical full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Eastman is a large, global company that functions well in a number of ways. Eastman's greatest strength has always been it's unique culture of people.

    Cons

For every area Eastman excels in, they seem to manage to have some equally non-functioning or frustrating system that has to be dealt with. This is usually exasperated by middle management. Career advancement opportunities are extremely rare at the technician level.

    Advice to Management

Don't lose sight of our traditional Eastman culture for the sake of modern buzzwords. Eastman people's loyalties (the source of our great culture) is quickly waning in this high pressure society.

    Pros

Very helpful people to work with, focus is on solving a problem if there is rather than blaming other.

    Cons

Functional requirements always change, usually are not in its entirety.

Good pay, stress level high, morale low.

    Pros

Eastman pays well. Small town environment, which is great! Fitness centers and a recreation department is nice. Very good school system.

    Cons

Stress level is very high, and morale is low. Shift workers have no family life because we have work all the time. Getting more dangerous because of the work load and processes that we have to watch with less people. Pushing equipment past the limit that they were designed.

    Advice to Management

Hire some operators, I know the doing less with more, but we are making dangerous chemicals not candy. Safety is supposed to be #1. It's not safe working shorthanded and almost everyday.

    Pros

Executive team and upper management are committed to innovation, growth, and change. They say and do the right things for the company.

    Cons

Most of middle management are long-term Eastman employees who are stubborn and resist change. The amount of mid level bureaucracy is annoying and unproductive.

    Pros

Large plant site with a variety of different processes and types of engineering jobs.

    Cons

Has not delivered opportunities as advertised when interviewed. The experience you get heavily depends on the area of the plant you are in.

Management needs to be more transparent.
