    Pros

Eastman is a very innovative company which provides different paths for you to develop a strong career. The company is flexible, very results-oriented and it is always posing challenges to the teams. I feel valued at Eastman and like very much the way the company and my co-workers act and make decisions. Eastman is concerned about people from safety, health and family issues. My quality of life improved a lot after joining Eastman.

    Cons

The company has made some acquisitions and people need to adapt to this new environment. It is just a matter of being adaptable but I am happy to see the company's growth! This is more a challenge than a cons.

    Pros

I've been with the company quite awhile and am appreciative. The experiences are good. No company is perfect and in my tenure here I've seen a lot of changes. They are more about the money now like most large corporations and not so much about the employees

    Cons

Don't just throw the tenured employees out. We still have a lot to offer

    Pros

Eastman is the best kept secret in the Fortune 350. Anchored in the gorgeous hills of northeast Tennessee, the sun never sets on the Eastman footprint: 50+ sites all over the world. That means global opportunities. The large sites in Tennessee and Texas (no income tax) are so big and integrated, they allow you to have a diverse career without ever having to pick up and move.

Don't like what you're doing? Eastman wants you to own your career and pursue those areas where you have passion.

Eastman has a collaborative, innovative culture where support and encouragement are welcome and jerks don't last long.

    Cons

Eastman is based in Kingsport, Tennessee. It's a beautiful area to live, world-class schools and friendly people. Expand your view to the entire Tri-Cities (Johnson City & Bristol), and you have a very robust set of choices for education, living, shopping, playing and dining.

But it's not for everyone. You're flying through Atlanta and Charlotte wherever you go. Kingsport itself is working to improve its retail offerings.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the solid work in delivering competitive benefits and compensation and committing to living the values outlined in the Eastman Advantage.

    Pros

Friendly atmosphere, our mentors show genuine care in how we are enjoying our time here and they make it clear that it should be a learning experience for us.

    Cons

With such a big company everything moves very slowly. If you need something reviewed or approved it takes a long time before it gets back to you.

    Advice to Management

I wish that the projects I am working on were more hands on as opposed to mostly documentation and recommendations.

    Pros

    Job security
    Annual raises/bonuses
There are some really great people to work with and build lasting relationships with
    Great managers
Contribution to the company (United Way, etc)

    Cons

    1. Location: the company loses the potential for amazing talent because of its location. It's great for people who already have families but young, sharp professionals who come out here won't like it. If you're in sales, it might not be too bad because once you've completed your first year here you work from your home office. There's also a lack of diversity because of its location in a predominantly Caucasian area.

    2. Pay an arm and a leg for insurance and still get a bill

    3. If you come in as an non-exempt employee who plans on moving into an exempt role soon, you're on your own. It would be fine if this were the case for all employees but it isn't. Exempts are moved into positions regularly without having to look at the career site and their managers work together to make these transitions occur as quickly as possible. So if you're someone who has a lot of ambition and wants to keep growing in your career, do not come in as a non-exempt employee and think it will be easier. It won't.

Two other things that demonstrates the divide between non-exempts and exempts are:
You're told you will be able to apply for tuition reimbursement after working for the company a year but it doesn't end there. You MUST be an exempt employee to get it. If you're a non-exempt employee, you will pay that tuition out of pocket.

There are also networking groups that meet frequently for luncheons and dinners where the eligibility depends on your exempt or non-exempt status.

    Advice to Management

Quit excluding non-exempt employees. There are many of us who have so much to offer to the company and are constantly overlooked. I think non-exempts should be able to move on to new roles if they show the drive, initiative, POTENTIAL and have the same educational background the company is looking for in a candidate.

    Pros

Eastman is a wonderful place to work and I highly recommend applying to work for this company. Eastman is so innovative and progressive. I could not be happier to stand behind such a company who is striving to do better each day.

    Cons

I can honestly not think of anything negative to say about Eastman. It is honestly the best things I have ever done.

    Poor Interview Process

    Pros

Most of the people interviewing were nice. Many of the employees had very positive things to say about the company as a whole.

    Cons

HR was terrible communicating all information in general. The interview process as way too long compared to their competitors. The employees were all old white people who seemed disconnected with industry standards external to Eastmans' internal training. The lack of diversity made the environment seemed like there was a "glass ceiling" for non white or non Christians within the organization.

    Advice to Management

Be concerned about attracting a diverse work group that reflects the global workforce. The company has a 20th century mindset in the 21st century. This will be a problem for them in the future.

    Pros

Only one example: take the former R&D Manager at Martinsville. A talented scientist who got his Ph.D. from the famous Cambridge University.

His tens and tens of US patents, multiple scientific and technical publications, and plenary talks at technical conferences led to his world recognition as a Scientist and as a Manager.

He became a Fellow of the Royal Society (FRS).

This Scientist for years pollinated with his scientific and technical ideas Martinsville site and the whole Eastman on the East Coast.

At a certain point it became obvious that it is time to say good-bye to the Intellectual at Martinsville.

But Eastman cares about talented scientist with a huge scientific/technical potential. The Scientist was transferred to the West Coast. He pollinates with his bright ideas Eastman divisions at the West Coast now.

    Cons

    I do not see any.

    Advice to Management

More Managers, more Project Leaders, more Directors, more Vice-Presidents, more meetings, more paperwork, more conference calls, more technical reports published on the shared drive!
