    I worked at Eastman Chemical

    Pros

For the IT field, this company really keeps you busy, always have projects in different stages of completion, never without a project to work on.

    Cons

Data center and main network node are top notch while most older buildings make do with old outdates equipment. This hampers the facilities productivity at times.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Lighten up and loosen the purse strings for equipment updates. Also the is a definite rift between unioin and management personel. It'll probably always be this way but there is always hope.

I have been working at Eastman Chemical

    Pros

Competitive wages, not stuck behind a desk, get to work with production employees. An hour lunch every day. Work is not overwhelming and interns are not asked to work overtime.

    Cons

Not enough direction on how to spend your time, frequently had to ask other engineers if they needed help or what they would like me to do next. Also stuck doing repetitive task that are not relevant to degree.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create an intern program that delegates more responsibility to the intern, so that they are more engaged in learning and enjoy working there more.

I have been working at Eastman Chemical full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Solid company based on a good reputation for innovation, global reach. The company financial outlook looks stable. Fairly good benefits. Vacation time is often based on lifetime experience--not just years with Eastman. Eastern Tennessee is nice.

    Cons

Despite what the company says or how it talks about itself in the media, there seems to be a shift from innovation to mergers and acquisitions. Upper management is increasingly from a business background than engineering, which creates a disconnect--perhaps why it feels like such a class system of elites vs. working people. It's a schism that seems to be growing. Employees are asked to tighten our belts but there doesn't seem to be any lack of perks for execs.

Another con is that Kingsport smells from all the industry. But you can live a short way away and be ok.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on organic innovation again and encourage out-of-the-box thinking.

I worked at Eastman Chemical full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

    1. Collaborative Environment is excellent.
    2. People at Kingsport/regional sites are excellent.

    Cons

    1. If you are recruited to work at Eastman, be prepared to be used for the following information with little reward:
          a. Connections of a focus industry if you come from that industry.
          b. Manager not to be involved in your skill set development.
          c. Little Career Advancement because your manager will be a fellow Eastman colleague when you start. The manager will be promoted as a result of your experience/knowledge.
          d. Constantly yelled out by my manager who had little experience in the industry compared to myself.
    2. Overall Benefits are terrible. Health benefits are not good and minimal salary increases are given.
    3. Corporate Credit Card is really a personal credit card given by the company which the company reimburses for approved expenses.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    1. Appreciate your recruited employees better.
    2. Improve your benefits.
