    Pros

I've been with the company quite awhile and am appreciative. The experiences are good. No company is perfect and in my tenure here I've seen a lot of changes. They are more about the money now like most large corporations and not so much about the employees

    Cons

Don't just throw the tenured employees out. We still have a lot to offer

    Pros

Eastman is the best kept secret in the Fortune 350. Anchored in the gorgeous hills of northeast Tennessee, the sun never sets on the Eastman footprint: 50+ sites all over the world. That means global opportunities. The large sites in Tennessee and Texas (no income tax) are so big and integrated, they allow you to have a diverse career without ever having to pick up and move.

Don't like what you're doing? Eastman wants you to own your career and pursue those areas where you have passion.

Eastman has a collaborative, innovative culture where support and encouragement are welcome and jerks don't last long.

    Cons

Eastman is based in Kingsport, Tennessee. It's a beautiful area to live, world-class schools and friendly people. Expand your view to the entire Tri-Cities (Johnson City & Bristol), and you have a very robust set of choices for education, living, shopping, playing and dining.

But it's not for everyone. You're flying through Atlanta and Charlotte wherever you go. Kingsport itself is working to improve its retail offerings.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the solid work in delivering competitive benefits and compensation and committing to living the values outlined in the Eastman Advantage.

    Pros

    Job security
    Annual raises/bonuses
There are some really great people to work with and build lasting relationships with
    Great managers
Contribution to the company (United Way, etc)

    Cons

    1. Location: the company loses the potential for amazing talent because of its location. It's great for people who already have families but young, sharp professionals who come out here won't like it. If you're in sales, it might not be too bad because once you've completed your first year here you work from your home office. There's also a lack of diversity because of its location in a predominantly Caucasian area.

    2. Pay an arm and a leg for insurance and still get a bill

    3. If you come in as an non-exempt employee who plans on moving into an exempt role soon, you're on your own. It would be fine if this were the case for all employees but it isn't. Exempts are moved into positions regularly without having to look at the career site and their managers work together to make these transitions occur as quickly as possible. So if you're someone who has a lot of ambition and wants to keep growing in your career, do not come in as a non-exempt employee and think it will be easier. It won't.

Two other things that demonstrates the divide between non-exempts and exempts are:
You're told you will be able to apply for tuition reimbursement after working for the company a year but it doesn't end there. You MUST be an exempt employee to get it. If you're a non-exempt employee, you will pay that tuition out of pocket.

There are also networking groups that meet frequently for luncheons and dinners where the eligibility depends on your exempt or non-exempt status.

    Advice to Management

Quit excluding non-exempt employees. There are many of us who have so much to offer to the company and are constantly overlooked. I think non-exempts should be able to move on to new roles if they show the drive, initiative, POTENTIAL and have the same educational background the company is looking for in a candidate.

    Pros

The pay and benefits are well above average for Northeast Tennessee.
Steady work hours, few (if any) layoffs.
Many people spend decades of their life here, something has to be good about the place.

    Cons

Bullying culture that is largely overlooked by management.
Located in a lower socioeconomic area offering few amenities.
Despite heavy company investment, poor apprenticeship training at the local community college.
Few opportunities to change career paths within the company.

    Pros

Lots of opportunitiy to improve skills and learn.
Pay is above most similar jobs in the area, but is probably less to the national level in the industry.
Good management at Executive levels, expect company to grow and prosper.

    Cons

Health Insurance benefits have decreased greatly in the past year with the "Consumer Driven" aspect, however it seems like the consumer is the comany rather than the employee.
Opportunities for advancement are limited sometimes by the area you are working in or the manager you report to. Education is sometimes valued more than experience.
As it is with most of Corporate America these days, Shareholders are valued more than employees.

    Advice to Management

We've grown through acquisition in the past couple of years, let's take care of what and who we have to keep it growing. Employee satisifaction does impact company stock price even if the investor analysts may not acknowledge it.

    Pros

    Cons

Upper Management is mostly men. Pay for women is less than men counterparts.

    Advice to Management

On journey towards world class company, so let's also have world class benefits.
