    Its all crumbling down

I worked at Eastman Kodak full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Work-Life balance is a plus. Depending on the manager, there are opportunities to work remotely and in this day and age of technology, working remotely is a viable option that many companies haven't embraced yet.

    Cons

What was once the film giant and the main employer for Rochester NY is now just a shell of what it once was. Poor management and a lack of vision for the future has left the company struggling to survive and too many former employees looking for work. There is very little job security as most of my colleagues are looking for other opportunities or waiting for the hammer to come down.

I worked at Eastman Kodak full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Excellent people, communication and vision within Dayton, OH facility. Departments worked well together to achieve site specific goals. Culture was excellent at one point, but has dramatically decreased with the involvement of corporate mandates.

    Cons

Corporate bureaucracy; performing non-value added activities due to outdated corporate policies; making decisions "across the board" instead of business unit specific. Leadership within the Dayton facility was excellent until corporate brought in management from other business units.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take a step back and start eliminating non-value added activities. Do not continue to perform tasks because "that's the way we've always done it."

    Pros

Research and Design peers are top notch.

    Cons

Constant risk of layoffs and pressure of doing more with less employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Let R&D make more business decisions and not marketing.

I worked at Eastman Kodak full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The company has great and very talented people in a great mid-sized city. The time off policies and benefits are still good.

    Cons

Some of the recent hires are not as qualified as those who have been around a while. There are some gems, but mostly people are hired because they knew someone from HP.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Inkjet won't make it. You need to find a business that is profitable. It is too bad you sold all of the profitable businesses to go after inkjet. J&J just sold Clinical Diagnostics for $4 billion, Eastman Chemical is highly profitable, Carestream Health has grown significantly, .... and there are many more.

I have been working at Eastman Kodak full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Many great people working here. Time off is good for years of service.

    Cons

Depending on unit, office culture can be terrible. Training is less than minimal with most training occurring solo on the job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Most issues that are common through out Kodak can be resolved by a strict adherence to our company core values.

I have been working at Eastman Kodak full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

The people are what make Kodak great. Some of the most talented, ethical and caring people I've run into. Plus, there is a pride of belonging to such an iconic brand, and caring for the customers. I suspect that there will be significant hiring in the coming years as the aging workforce retires. The cutting edge work in certain technological areas is exciting.

    Cons

The company has changed dramatically in the past few years. Gone is pretty much everything that most of us grew up with as Kodak. Now, it is a B2B company focusing primarily on the graphics and functional printing space. It still has the remnants of a big company in terms of culture (bureaucracy, slow) that need to change to make it the employer of choice, and the focus on the employees is not what it once was.

I have been working at Eastman Kodak full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Learned a lot with many new challenges over the years. Good coworkers.

    Cons

Tight financial times and recent Chapter 11 have meant no salary growth for several years, while inflation continues. Recent layoffs, with the last round cutting some really essential people.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Less bean-counting, and more attention to intelligent use of your (intellectual) resources is required. Regarding CEO: too early to tell about the new CEO (glassdoor specifically asked me to rate him), but the previous CEO led us down this rat-hole to Chap. 11 and "guided" us through and out of Chap. 11, and now leaves with millions. You should have handed him his hat years ago.
