I have been working at Eastman Kodak (Less than a year)

    Pros

The people that remain at Kodak are of very high qualifications and work very well together. We continue to implement newer technology and processes.

    Cons

Company strategies are still forming with the new management team that took over in 2014. Company is trying to act like a startup company, but current employees do not have that mindset.

    Advice to Management

Must start hiring new people and use the great internal consulting power of the current employees to mentor them as they implement projects that can set new directions for the company.

    Pros

Had the opportunity to work with some great people. Learned a lot from co-workers and everyone worked as a team. Many opportunities to focus your career in areas that you enjoy and excel.

    Cons

Upper management did a terrible job in directing this company. Too much greed at management level and focus on personal growth, not making decisions based on the best path for the company.

    Advice to Management

Do what is right for the company in the long run. Do not sacrifice short term successes for long term health of the company.

    Pros

Worked in Kodak R&D for many years. Great colleagues, stimulating projects. Most people are friendly and everyone pitches in. Salaries for successful professionals are some of the best in the area. You really have to tick someone off to get a negative performance review. Lots of freedom to work on interesting things. File lots of patents and you can do no wrong.

    Cons

Company is still searching for a reliable business model, has very limited resources and the infrastructure is shaky. Demographics are highly skewed towards older workers and advancement opportunities are limited. Core researchers have limited information about business units and plans. Technician pay scales are moribund. Only Chosen Ones ever interact with Senior Management, a Kodak tradition for generations.

    Advice to Management

Get every R&D employee into intimate contact with one or more business units before it's too late. It may already be too late.

    Pros

Great people with which to work; lots of challenging work; excellent base pay, holiday and vacation allowances; flexible work arrangements.

    Cons

Lots of challenging work - too much work for too few people. The company's direction does not seem to be well-defined, and for that reason, its future seems to be questionable.

    Advice to Management

A prerequisite to taking people out of the company is taking work out. Unfortunately, the opposite seems to be the case, and too often, reducing the work doesn't follow. Although people are an expense, they are also a company's most valuable asset. Cutting expenses is sometimes necessary, but it's not the best path to profitability. Be more creative about how to become profitable.

    Pros

Home town. Great name recognition. Lots of potential. Nice people with whom to work.

    Cons

CEO is a mess. He is very impressed with himself and seems to disregard opinions that aren't his. He isn't committed to the Company. He doesn't even live in Rochester. I don think he has ever managed, or led, anything that is tough as this is. Weak communicator, jumps from place to place. I had to leave.

    Advice to Management

The CEO needs to create a vision that is linked to reality. You aren't going to beat HP at their game when they are entrenched and have 50x your resources. Stop telling stories of your past. They are irrelevant to our situation today, and stop jumping from one thing to the other without accomplishing anything. I really have to wonder, where did they find this guy?

I worked at Eastman Kodak full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

I worked with some very knowledgeable people who were willing to not only help when needed but were willing to "teach" so that the next time the same or similar issue came up I knew how to handle the situation.

    Cons

To much shifting around of supervisors

    Advice to Management

I know that EK is a new and different company now. Please make sure that you are leading Kodak down the right path and learn from the errors that were made in the past.

    Pros

They try to treat employees well, in spite of the vast down-sizing over the last 2 decades

    Cons

Down-sizing over the last 2 decades due to terrible management strategies by previous executive management staff.
