Office Politics @ it's worst! Power Struggle and plenty of collateral damage!

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsOrganized system. Good Benefits. Ample opportunities to move around the different divisions of the company, be it within the same facility or others.

ConsAs mentioned, politics and power struggle at high levels, GM has no relevance and does not command a presence due to constant change of GMs and also politics of their higher management.

Advice to Senior ManagementGood Luck continuing looking in all the wrong places and ignoring existing problems. For employees that have been with the company for over 10 years and their position can be merely shifted like it doesn't matter proves and shows how you treat loyalty and effects how your employees should treat you in future!!

No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Management at the Eaton India Engineering Center

Senior Engineer (Former Employee) Pune (India)

ProsThe Eaton India Engineering Center is financially strong. Has a lot of employees.
Geographical location is at a good special economic zone.

ConsIncompetent and professionally impotent management. Will support growth of only incapable people – since capable and courageous people cannot be controlled by a incompetent and professionally impotent management. Are keen on capable, talented, knowledgeable and initiative taking employees to leave the company. Management wants to make the Eaton India Engineering Center a swamp than a growing and flowering filed. So – only people who can do this are encouraged. Do I need to say more?

Advice to Senior ManagementWake Up. Get better or get beaten and be thrown out. You cannot survive this way for long. You cannot keep on promoting a swamp – because a swamp only breeds disease carrying insects like mosquitoes.

Good place for people who want to work very hard and are able to travel and/or relocate

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsCompensation was fair-bonus program was appropriate
    Yearly performance and merit reviews
Training and development focus at al levels
Senior leadership in the US is quite competent and spends time understanding business issues

ConsHeavy politics in the EMEA region
Personal differences kept individuals from being promoted; competence ignored
Often the method of communication took precedence over substance.
Process oriented; took a long time to get things done

Advice to Senior ManagementTruly practice being an Equal Opportunity Employer worldwide
Focus more on results and less on process documentation
Review impact of offshoring on quality and individuals

Hypocrisy at it's best in Raleigh!

No Accountability Towards Lazy Employees and Lack of Work! (Current Employee) Raleigh, NC

ProsPension is about it and you can call in sick as many days as you like, if you are that type of employee.

ConsHave employees that take 20-50 day's off per year for being sick, or so they claim.
Work with people that are not experienced or professional.
Upper Management in Raleigh is old boy's network and don't understand sales.
Some employees milk the system and take 3 hour lunches, are full of excuses, and their manager protects them.
There are certain Manager's there who don't like conflict and have no backbone when it comes to addressing under-performing employees.
Preach ethics, but employees sametime each other all kinds of thing's which are not ethical.
They fire good employees who do their job for unfair reasons and keep those that don't even work.

Worst experience with HR relation within 30 years career in Canada and U.S. combined !

    Assembler (Former Employee) Sarasota, FL

ProsIf you already got a job there well hang to it because this is hard to get a better one now and if your conditions are fair enough to stay why change.

ConsThe HR department hire staffing agency from Texas (because no other agencies want them as a customer in Sarasota/Bradenton) for as low as $8.28 per hour to fire them out 4 days during a work rush in front of everybody for no good reason because they state they have a problem with the agency and after contacting the agency they say that the employee does'nt work out there !

Advice to Senior ManagementGive a briefing to HR people on new corporative policies for agency workers or else kick these unprofessional HR senior and HR junior clerk who act like kids out for good.

    former electircal engineer

    Electrical Engineer (Former Employee)

ProsBenefits were good. Clean and safe working environment. Did not have any problem getting computer equipment or software. Free coffee makers throughout the building.

ConsManagement by the bean counters. Much in-fighting by the mid level management. Little to no lab support such as engineering techs and supplies. Much of the development prototypes were outsourced and I had to do spend many evenings in the lab reworking circuit boards. Trying to deal with design centers in India and China was very counter-productive and had included late night teleconferences at odd hours due to the time differences between Suzhou China, Mumbai, India and the U.S. I was given the 2 minute notice on my layoff last year.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop the in-fighting, Redefine what the Chinese and Indian design centers roles are as they don't really get it yet. Hire some lab technicians who can solder and fabricate. Tell the accountants that this quarters' results don't mean the end of the company.

    Big Name...no fame

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSupposed to be a diversified player in manufacturing. Strong background in hydraulics engineering backed up with expertise across the globe.

ConsEaton is like this mirage that disappears when you go close to it. Atleast that's how the Service Centre out here works.

The manner in which pay cuts were implemented in 2008 left a lot to be desired. Most important, people were sacked on reasons the company deemed "ETHICAL". Employees lived under the constant fear of being fired, leading to drop in morale, motivation and eventually performance levels.

Advice to Senior ManagementGuys, get your act straightened up before its too late. Do not take employees for granted. Constantly involve/engage with employees across all levels. Stop being arrogant and high handed.

Don't even think about working at Eaton.

    Product Engineer (Current Employee)

ProsUsed to be a good place to work, but that really doesn't mean anything now. Eaton is a good company if you are an investor because they will do anything, including treating employees like trash to make the books look good.

ConsWhere to begin? Incompetent leadership seems to be a way of life at Eaton. We get ethics rammed down our throats but rarely see it demonstrated at higher levels. The outsourcing at Eaton is a big joke. Quality and community support take a back seat while supplier business is solely based on the lowest bidder. No raises, a month off without pay, massive firings and suspension of the 401K match have made for an interesting year at Eaton. Years with record profits bear no fruit for the employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementPractice what you preach!
