I have been working at Eaton full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The benefits are somewhat decent and you get to work with some OK people. They have some super world class training facilities and some amazing people running them. You will not lack for training in any way. You have decent resources to work with. It takes a certain mind set to work and be happy here. There are a lot of heavily entrenched old-timers who are mostly top notch folks.

    Cons

Their entire IT department is a totalitarian system staffed by control mongering Nazis that severely limits your productivity. Everything and every aspect of every task that involves using a computer of any type is monitored and restricted. There is a good amount of micro-management in some divisions and departments. The compensation is below standard and you will need to put in several hard years before you get anywhere near what you're worth. If you get the opportunity to make a decent salary, you will jump through an insane amount of hoops and be worked to the bone to earn it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

There's not much that can be said as they will not take any of it seriously or flat out dismiss it out of hand.

I worked at Eaton full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Only one I can think of: In my experience there, people displayed good behavior. It was refreshing to experience that.

    Cons

Eaton is gradually changing its porfolio mix from old biz to new biz. Depending on what business unit you are working in, future could be very uncertain. Company does not like to lose money, ever. Management will cut staff or pay very quickly to avert that.

I have been working at Eaton full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Pay and benefits are good including a pension plan. Flexable vacation and work hours along with the ability to work at home in some jobs. Respect, ethics, and respect for opinions are valued aspects.

    Cons

Too much corporate governance, burdensome corporate reporting, and dictated processes stifle creativity. Corporate management out of touch with division issues.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Encourage experimentation, accept occasional failures, improve communication

Fine if you're at a legacy Eaton plant. If you're an acquisition, not so much.

I worked at Eaton (less than an year)

    Pros

Good professional development. Decent benefits package. Competitive salary. There is a heavy focus on continuous improvement. There are many sites across the country that you can relocate to fulfill career goals.

    Cons

Acquisitions are hung out to dry. Former Cooper sites have an identity crisis. The legacy employees tend to look down on former Cooper and other acquisition sites. At my plant, supervisors were given too many outside projects to adequately supervise there area(s).

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If you aren't going to take real interest in a business, don't buy it! It's bad for the employees to see Eaton come in, hang a sign on the building, and not give any support.

I have been working at Eaton full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Values, nice people. Leadership model. People are very helpful. Lots of processes that help guide newcomers. Multi product lines that people can move and learn.

    Cons

Multiple levels of politics- try to please the king. Too many dumb Short term decisions that have impacted future. Poor choice of leaders that make bad decisions-too many executive bullies with control issues. No development of people. People over reaction and make short sighted decisions, no creative thinking or acting.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to be Future focused not short term. Develop current people instead of focused on outside hiring. Address the senior executive issues, get real people, not out of touch, reactive, over paid bullies.
