I have been working at Eaton Vance

    Pros

very good work life balance. very nice people. can learn a lot, but it depends on whether you are working for a good analyst.

    Cons

under paid versus other RAs in Boston. coverage and exposure is limited unless you work for an analyst that delegates well. No set career path. The RA program isn't finite. There are RAs that have been here for 1 year, or 7 years...no set amount of time until you get promoted or "encouraged" to go to be school.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Improve career progression and delegate responsibility in equity department.

    Pros

EV's focus and specialization in each department can allow for good hands-on experience and learning opportunities.

    Cons

Unfortunately, due to poor middle and senior management across the board, many departments fail to develop their talent. Most operations are done on a day-to-day, minimal-effort basis.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be much more careful about your hiring practices; develop your internal talent or risk falling behind.

I worked at Eaton Vance full-time

    Pros

Good pay, nice building, finagle a bagel has the best iced coffee

    Cons

The department I worked in had terrible mgmt. A completely hostile working environment (an example - I was called out in a department meeting for a typo I made in an email. Everyone had their own highlighted copy!). I was belittled on a daily basis and eventually quit.
I got in trouble a few times for not changing from my flip flops/boots into my work shoes fast enough. Strict dress code. So inflexible about sick days/days off.

I have been working at Eaton Vance as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

high workplace retention, a lot of the people here are satisfied with what they do and see it as the sort of place they can spend their whole career. people generally get along well and are very friendly, not highly competitive. the company has consistently done well in both good and bad times.

    Cons

very difficult to advance one's career, pay is good but not great. Not a lot of people know of it (NYSE:EV)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have been working at Eaton Vance

    Pros

Probably depends on the team you work for but in mine:

Intellectually rewarding - give you responsibilities early
Nice people - good corporate culture
Decent hours - good work/personal life balance
    Good compensation & benefits

    Cons

    Boston/US-centric culture
Too nice people maybe at times
Too shy about international expansion - to the extent it is really a priority as stated

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Try to maintain the small company/entrepreneurial culture as the company grows
Push more for the organization to adapt to the demands of international expansion - both people and processes
