Company cares about stock price before customers

I worked at Ebix (More than 3 years)

    Pros

I worked with some really great people who were very professional. The benefits were above average.

    Cons

Executive management are just talking heads. They do not understand the industry or anything about the products being sold. (Few exceptions). Whatever I sold was always a problem for the customer. I left because the company could not deliver on expectations. They just don't care about the customer and only care about their stock price, making acquisitions and flipping a pile of junk to an unsuspecting buyer.

    Advice to Management

Manage the company with some scruples.

    Pros

Good benefits package, great co-workers . Wide variety of vertices and products to gain knowledge of if you are allowed the time to absorb the information.

    Cons

You have to chase after your bonus, commission, salary review and basically anything thrashes to do with money. Better make sure when you negotiate your offer to be as much as possible because you will typically not see an increase for at least 3-5 years. Get ready for some long hours because there is no importance made to resourcing needs. Be prepared for zero recognition as well as you are expected to work 50-60 hours regularly with zero overtime.

    Advice to Management

Shift your paradigm and think about employee morale, client satisfaction and making acquisitions that make sense . Hire competent people and then give them the authority to make decisions. Invest in your employees not buying back your stock or a new shiny building.

I have been working at Ebix full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Free beverages in the kitchen. Good coffee and great new offices in Atlanta. Some pretty cool people who never stay long.

    Cons

No reviews, no raises, no appreciation. The executive team never addresses company, very secretive outside their Entourage. Culture of fear and punishment from the top down. employees live in fear that they are about to lose their jobs. No raises in years but they built a 25M shrine replete with tennis courts. Do they think employees care to play when their bathroom breaks are being timed by HR minions? They buy good companies to show good revenue figures then proceed to ignore and destroy them. No organic growth, constant reduction of resources. Good employees are leaving in droves. Management could care less. Don't work here. Great offices don't make up for rewarding experiences. Go somewhere you will be appreciated. I am out of here the first opportunity I get.

    Advice to Management

Your acquisitions are bandaids that mask company wide misery and lack of growth. Buying companies is more expensive than treating employees with respect. These employees will reward you with loyalty that encourages real growth. Stop treating employees like trash you can throw away. Get a real HR team who cares about employees. I am not sure you will care about this review either way, so what's the point of giving you advice.

I have been working at Ebix (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Only marginally better than unemployment. Company makes quarterly numbers somehow, but not through sales. Only grows by acquisition, no organic growth at all.

    Cons

No leadership, no communication. Very bizarre management, no marketing or R & D. Acquired business left to die a slow death. No effort made to operate acquisitions, just "plugging in" the revenues. Employees fleeing en masse.

    Advice to Management

Support your employees. Provide some system of performance reviews and reward employee effort. Update antiquated products and inferior processes. Innovate, create, market and sell like a viable technology company.

    Pros

Free soda to keep you going on a sugar high

    Cons

Far commute. Company moved from Mid Town to Johns Creek and gave employees very little information about the move. All flexibility has been taken away. Skeleton crew left and those that stayed are not appreciated.

    Advice to Management

None...they do not listen to the employees so what is the point

I worked at Ebix full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Great health benefits package.

    Cons

    - Office morale is terrible. Internal champions for the company are impossible to find outside of upper management (who I don't believe realize that there's an issue there). - Promotions (unless you count getting more responsibility with no increase in salary) are rare to non-existent. As a whole, the company doesn't invest in the knowledge or advancement of its employees. - Distrust of upper management. Most seen as mouthpieces for the CEO. - Planning is extremely difficult. Expenses, whether $5,000 or $50, go to the CEO for approval. Most times approval depends on what kind of mood he's in and can take weeks. - The CEO appears to "average" employees as very ego driven (showing an actual mosaic of his face on a company video should help with that though). - Attrition: Key department managers and SMEs are leaving the company at an unbelievable pace. One of two things is happening: Either upper management sees this issue and is failing to respond accordingly or, even worse, they don't realize it. Either is extremely troubling for employees.

    Advice to Management

Let your department managers manage. Ebix could be better. Reward proven employees.

    Pros

    Some people are friendly here.

    Cons

Company do not have a program for training. You are expected to learn everything on your own and it is all propriety software. Very high demand from employees. We easily work 60hrs a week or more. when we complain to manager, he say we are not working efficiently. Every single person on team have same complain of too much work for one person. The manager expect you to get all your work done even if it mean you have to work from home and cut family time. You are paid salary, so no over time. Senior manager only care to he look good to upper management and will sink his employee to do so. So if you thinking to work here, try to talke to some employee first. Tell hiring manager you want to talk to team members on the team you will work with before you take job. Although workers are nice to each other, a lot of back stabbing happens. Most people who is working here cannot find another job, but as soon as they find something else, they are gone. No room to grow in company. Lots of fake promise.

    Advice to Management

Be careful your clients find out about the work atmosphere for the employees.
