An engineer's dream. The work is very technical. Also, you get the opportunity to deal with manufacturing teams from China and Mexico, repair facilities in Mexico, etc. very good opportunity to learn a lot - you are given all the responsibility you want and then some.

    Cons

Pay is a bit low. Lots of pressure and frequent chances to get chewed out.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase benefits, and try to make this a more enjoyable work environment.

    Pros

Difficult to list any. Sr. Management hides behind a good ol boy, old school entrenched culture. Management Disconnected from the actual employees hard work and their actual needs to fulfill arduous requirements.

    Cons

When your sending your employees internationally, take care of them. While traveling for EchoStar in India I contracted the debilitating disease dengue virus. Company abandoned me, waited 2 weeks while I lay in hospital before passing me along to a work comp claim. Lost tens of thousands of dollars and eventually forced to leave the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Take care of your employees and their best interest, we dedicate ourselves to the company. Have the compassion, decency, ethical and moral commitment to do the same for your employees while you place them in harms way and dangerous environments and harsh conditions. Don't turn your back on unique situations, do what's morally correct.

    Pros

Open atmosphere to innovate. Lots of challenges. Flexibility exists once you prove yourself. If you have a thirst for knowledge and can bring ideas you will be heard. Great open door policy. HR is dong its best to remove the old DISH culture. Things are significantly better with a top company growth attitude.

    Cons

Not for the faint of heart. Need to be adaptable.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Less micromanagement

Former Employee - Installation/Service Technician III in Denver, CO
Former Employee - Installation/Service Technician III in Denver, CO

I worked at EchoStar full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I enjoyed the technical aspects of the job and working with the customers, especially the troubleshooting and challenging installations.

    Cons

Mostly the dumb rules imposed by management and they way they become more and more hostile as you progress through the steps to become an advanced technician. They would rather alienate the experienced techs so they will leave and pay someone else the beginning techs wages.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Experience should be recognized and valued by companies. The technicians at Dish Network are the main contact point with the customers, and should receive more respect within the company for their technical and people skills. The management of this company uses the 'mud on the wall' tactics where paying minimal wages is more important than experienced technicians who can resolve both technical and customer service issues.

Former Employee - Human Resources in Denver, CO

I worked at EchoStar full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Gives opportunity to employees to work "over the head" and if you prove yourself, you might get promoted. Great challenges, if you're willing to take on something new, they give you a shot at it. If you come up with ideas, they listen and usually let you go for it. I thought it was a fun, fast-paced environment, but I was single at the time.

    Cons

This was back in Echostar's earlier days, Mike Duggan was not the CEO at that time, they have probably changed. But at that time:
Workaholic culture. You're not considered a team player if you want evenings and weekends for your family. The management team was expected to be avail 24/7. Pay was on the low end. I was in human resources and could not get the management team to consider anyone who wasn't in mid-thirties or younger. Executive team was a boys club, foul language, hostile work environment at that level was tolerated.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on diversity. Allow flexible time for employees with family. For a person who works evenings and weekends, allow them to come in half day once in awhile. Or work from home a full day. Glad to hear Mike Duggan is CEO, that has to have been a great win for the company. He seems like a compassionate, caring businessman.
